Sole practitioner, owner, & operator of boutique accounting practice, with a wide range of specializations and 34 years of professional and academic experience.
Cedar Hill Bookkeeping & Tax Service, which was founded and opened in the Dallas suburb of Cedar Hill, Texas in June of 1993, is a labor of love for its owner, operator, and sole practitioner, John Cassar (That's me!). From days spent teaching Accounting Principles and Auditing at Cedar Valley College to the expansion of C.H.B.T.S. into the many and varied areas of tax preparation for which it is now equipped, we strive to meet each of our clients' needs, no matter their income tax bracket, organizational skills (Don't we all love receipts?), or familiarity with the tax code.
We don't do boilerplate responses.
We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all method of tax preparation.
Why not?
Because each return is as unique as the client to whom it belongs.
We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, our accuracy, our thoroughness, and our adaptability.
We don't "just file" what you give us in a pre-filled form, so that we can quicken turnaround time. If there is a document missing--something we know could potentially save you time, money, or effort--we'll ask you for it. We'd rather save you the trouble and inconvenience now than have you receive less of a refund--or owe more taxes, depending on your situation--later.
So far as the business atmosphere is concerned?
We're casual, but not to the extent that the professionalism of our work is compromised.
We believe that taxes don't have to be nerve-wracking, stuffed-shirt affairs, and we're okay with that.
We want you to be comfortable asking us questions, and we'll be happy to answer as many of them as we're able to answer.
Are we old-fashioned?
Maybe.
We began learning about and practicing bookkeeping by way of long-form sheets, using good ol' ink and paper--about 34 years ago. We took a shine to the practice, and received formal education in the field, after having had the valuable experience afforded by those first ink-and-paper days.
We just put our business onto Twitter and Facebook in February of 2017.
We maintain that relationships are an important part of any business; and while face-to-face interaction is our personally preferred method of operation, we know that not everyone's situation is alike.
In some cases, we'll travel to you, if you live too far to make it to us. (Think of it as housecalls, but for accounting.)
In other cases, we'll accept and work with electronically-submitted documents, if that's what's best for you.
We communicate by telephone, text, e-mail, social media, or whatever method works best for the client.
We're modern, but not too modern--just modern enough to be in-touch with today's clients' varied needs, but old-fashioned enough to maintain our commitment to the value of individualized and personal attention.
In sum, I guess you could say that we're different.
We don't have a fancy company logo.
We don't offer big-box solutions with bright, flashy colors, or a one-size-fits-all approach to filing.
We don't have a big office building with fluorescent lights (Who likes fluorescent lights anyway?).
Why not?
Because we're small, we're local, and we love it. We've been serving the Best Southwest area (with satellite clients all over the U.S. and in Canada) for almost 24 years now.
Because we believe in assessing each return on a case-by-case basis and establishing relationships with our clients, some of whom have been with us since 1993.
Because we believe you and your finances deserve that kind of individual attention.
