In our grocery store, one can purchase vegetables, spices, and other food items that are traditionally Nepali, Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Somali community members. In addition, the store also offers non-food items, such as traditional decorative items and clothes.
We also send money through Western Union Money Transfer, and sell SIM and/or refill cellphone services, such as H2O, RedPocket, and Ultra.
After resettling in Vermont, the owners, Bhakti and Somu, decided that they would start a market, combined with grocery store and restaurant, that offers authentic taste of Nepali cuisines to local Vermonters. The Market aims to promote cross-cultural environment in Vermont by providing fellow Vermonters an avenue where they can taste international cuisines and witness and participate in multicultural interactions.
Former Bhutanese refugees, Bhakti and Somu, resettled in Vermont in 2008. Both of the owners worked various entry-level jobs to earn money that would help them make living while saving money to start his own business. The owners wanted to provide and foster multicultural environment through their business in Vermont, their new home.
"Our success and happiness comes from serving our customers and satisfying them," says Bhakti.
