You have to have a membership, and although I have paid for it in the roughly 2 months i have had it, my key fob didn't work 2 times when it should have. It was after the park district was closed so had to wait until the next day to get it resolved. The water fountains are good for the dogs but as a person I wouldn't drink the water, and in general most people pick up after their dogs. Generally owners seem responsible and respectful. The park is big enough for dogs to really run, or as the owner you can walk the perimeter to get some exercise. There really isn't any agility equipment for the dogs which is disappointing. When the wind is from the wrong direction the park smells from the water treatment facility which is adjacent. There is only one portapotty to use if the need arises. During busy times there may not be enough parking. I have travelled many places and there are very few that have memberships for their dog parks. I can't say that this park is any better run, has better features, or has more respectful owners than dog parks which are free to use. Considering the taxes one pays in Champaign it is a scam to extract even more money from dog owners, when the bare minimum is provided. No one would feel it is appropriate to charge parents a fee to use parks with their children but somehow charging dog owners to use one park in the entire city next to a water treatment facility is a good thing.
A quick jaunt to the dog park is the only guaranteed method to get my 5-month old puppy tired enough to let me finish a graduate assignment in peace. SERIOUSLY - this dog park is clean and vast, so you can feel good about letting your dog run around. The people and dogs are friendly, and this place has become a staple in our routine.
Love this local gem. Huge place for dogs to run and socialize. Area for all size dogs as well as an area for smaller breeds. Dogs are awesome and people are friendly. Make sure to get your key fob with CU park district to get membership and entry
it is a members only park, so if you live in the CU area, you can get a membership for this, its $41 per dog, $10 for each fob. you can also get a Urbana dog park fob for $10 if you have a Champaign dog park membership. this park is surprisingly big and there's a lot of room for my dog to run around! the dogs here are usually very well behaved, and its a great place for my dog to socalize with others. it does get muddy, especially near the entrance, and some people don't realize they have to pick up after their dogs, but overall its a great place to bring my dog.
Beautiful dog park, we were traveling through and stopped to let the dogs stretch out. Unfortunately it was a members only park, which I completely understood, so we just walked around the outside the fence. I would have gladly paid a one time visitor fee but that wasn’t an option.
Dog park requires membership and does not have an option for a daily payment. We were traveling through, hoping to let our dogs run a bit. We were able to enjoy the parking lot.
This is the best place to have your dog work out all of their extra energy, socialize with different types of dogs, and is quite relaxing for people as well. The park is very well maintained and there are usually a few other dogs there. All of the owners care deeply about their dogs and are willing to help break up the very rare fight.
It looked nice, with separate small dog and all dog areas. Alas, it is members only. No grass smelling for weary dog travelers. Keycard access only. We never got inside.
This is a great open space with separate areas for large and small dogs. There are trees and picnic tables for shaded areas, and water fountains that are accessible to the dogs.
Great dog park. The large dog area is big enough for the pooches to run and play, but small enough that you can keep an eye on them at all times. There used to be an issue with mud around the entrance, it appears that has been resolved. After rain, the gravel parking lot has lots of muddy puddles, which the dogs track into the car. I like this park better than the Urbana dog park because Urbana's has several, major mud holes. I got tired of having to bathe the dogs every time we went there.
