September of 1928 a hand full of residents and business owners saw the need
for fire protection. The Champion Heights Fire Department Inc. was established
as a subscription private company. In 1933 the department was turned over
to the Township Trustees due to mounting costs and the Champion Township
Fire Department was born. In 1955 a full time Chief was hired and in 1965 the
station had manning 24 hours a day. With EMS service in the 1970’s saw
Paramedics and with implementation of 911 came an increased call volume.
Four personnel staff the station today around the clock manning nine apparatus.
Cross trained as firefighters and EMS providers the men and women of the
department proudly serve the residents of Champion.
The call volume in 1929 was 15 and in 2012 the department handled just
over 1,750 alarms. Champion Fire Department is an I.S.O. Class 6 / 9.
