We enjoyed it at Chaparral very much. The Camp staff were super nice and had a family approach. The other campers we very friendly even the seasonal campers made us welcome. Many times this is not the case. We felt very safe and comfortable. We didn't get to fish this time but hope to next time !! We will most definitely stay with them again ! Dog-friendliness: Dogs allowed on leash....
I loved this Campground . bathrooms not so great. but I had my camper. nice level lots, easy hook ups. very friendly people, mostly. camp hosts were very helpful and nice people. would definitely stay there again. Dog-friendliness: very dog friendly and would like to stay that way.
Weekend here in the past and have now became seasonal campers. Peaceful, quiet and serene campground! Clean bathrooms, well maintained roads, large shady spacious sites. Great customer service and response from owners. Owners are open and honest people! All the campers are super friendly and helpful!! Glad to have found this hidden gem of a campground!
Nice piece of wooded property. The plus side first. Fully equipped camper, we enjoyed ourselves, didn't need to depend on the campgrounds for entertainment. wooded campsite. full hookups.. Mgmt for the most part were nice. Didn't have to bother with them too much. So if you come fully equipped. you'll enjoy yourself if you're a tent camper, read on. Downside- didn't make it to the beach area so no opinion on that. Didn't see anyone there while we were there though. But the shower house needs some serious tlc and attention. Busted wall cavity housing an abandoned wasp nest is the first major thing you see. going further into the restrooms, You're waiting for the next thing to grab ya and haul you off. nature at its best though. I'm not a wasp fan. Overall though, we enjoyed ourselves and learned really quick the do's and dont's. i gave them 4 stars cause with the exception of the showerhouse, i would like to see this location become successful. this campground is not geared really towards 6 years old or younger. so you'll need entertainment if you're bringing your broke little best friends along. i will return soon. thanks guys.
Chaparral Family Campground Use to be a very nice campground back in the day when Tim and his wife Joe ran It! They had haunted hay rides ,all sorts of things for the kids to do! And it was geared towards Family park was very nice and well kept up. Well needless to say the drunks took it over Irene and her daughter robin ,whom is tim wife now ..she is a rude load mouth drunk! That caused Tim and his wife joe to split .. they divorced Robin wreacked there marriage .. tim and joshpine's... robin is a drunk .. you would hear noise coming from the bathroom Imagine that The Store would be closed and the game room ...she'd be in there with tim ...while he was married to joe she wreaked there marriage .. The park became trash ran by the drunks we left do your self a favor stay away
Very nice grounds. Packed like sardines in a permanent looking mobile home area. Nice lake. Fishing.
This campground is ghetto. There are 3 separate bathrooms, but only 1 is functional, but the building should be condemned. There are multiple derelict rvs abandoned throughout the property. The owners are rude and the wife is a loudmouth. The owners and residents constantly drive their golf carts around hoping to find a reason to "correct" you the wife will scream at you from across the campground for anything and everything. They do provide activities for residents and campers, but we didn't feel welcomed enough to bother attending any of them because we were tent campers and not RV owners; we were treated lesser and looked down upon. The swimming deck is broken full of holes and the playground is full of broken equipment. This is the worst campground I've ever stayed at and I've been camping for over 30 years!
Very nice campground..the owners were extremely nice, we had a good time, will definitely be coming coming back..
Unfortunately it needs updated bad, from restrooms to playground and EVERYTHING in between. This used to be a kept up gorgeous place. Seems the money doesn't make it back into camp as it should, but the fees keep going up. *Edit as of 10/4/22 -Fees are now $1500 and literally nothing has changed. Kids cannot play on the playground, it's a hazard. There have been no updates, add-ons or upgrades to this campground in 14+ years.
My wife and I went into this campground with an open mind despite the many negative comments we found on the Internet. Unfortunately, this campground lived more up to the negative comments than the positive. There are a plenty of permanent sites here, and overall those campers were very friendly as they cruised around on their golf carts. The staff on-site are a different story...more to come on this below. The clubhouse is stocked well with supplies should you forget anything on your trip out, but I can tell you other than that it is dated and not very welcoming. Dark, 1980's smell and very old gaming tables and lounge area. The park area was roped off and closed, and to be honest even it it wasn't, we weren't letting our kids in that area. Slides and playgrounds were outdated, everything was overgrown, and it looked as if it has been neglected for years. We weren't sure why it was blocked off either, it just was. The lake was also overgrown around the edges. Only a few spots to cast and fish but also not welcoming being a center point to the grounds. The spot we were pulled into I was told "has some septic issues a week or so ago, but the rain should have washed it out by now, if not, I can bring over some lime and spread it around". Well, with 3 young kids, I can tell you we spent a lot more time making sure they weren't in the grass area where the septic was and didn't implement the 5 second rule at all. Our camper also leveled down to near ground level on our hitch because of the slope. We did have other options but they were too narrow for our 40 ft trailer. The roadways through the campsite were nice, and to be honest, our kids don't know the difference. They rode bikes, we went on a few walks, it was overall an ok campground visually and for what we were doing. It was crowded with full-time campers and you could feel that congestion. I would give it a B- on that front. The minus is because it was just very overgrown and not well kept. Night time was fairly quiet after about 11pm minus the occasional dog barking. Until that time, you can clearly hear the racetrack down the street. A constant hum of motors racing. There was a slight hint of Mary Jane in the air, which doesn't bother us, but it may bother you. The Saturday we were there they were doing a hay ride at 7pm and apparently had some food trucks show up. My wife and children went ahead of me to get on the hayride at 6:55 I forgot my wallet, which was set up and had a ramp going to the trailer area. My wife and kids got on the trailer via the ramp and the owner promptly came over, said that the hayride was moved from 7pm to 9pm because the food trucks were late and that "you need to get off right now, we don't do what you just did and get on without asking permission". He then sat there are mean mugged them until they got off. My wife was not happy to say the least and even my kids picked up on the anger this man had. Now, I get part of this where he might have been in his own world and things were late, but my wife and 3 children weren't breaking any laws or rules. They didn't know any better. He was also very rude in his tone. To that point, I did notice the owners constantly on patrol throughout our visit and I can only assume that should we have been doing something out of line with their opinion we would have heard about it. Let me say that single interaction made all the other reviews on this campground probably true. We don't see the owners being very friendly at all, nor interested in weekend campers. Let that be a warning to you. Compared to any 5 campgrounds within 5 miles of this one, this would be our last choice. It should be yours too, don't risk going, go somewhere else. We hate even doing this review, but you should know before you spend the money and stay there.
