The mission of the Center of Healthy Eating and Activity Research (CHEAR) is to provide excellence in research, patient care, and education as it relates to obesity and eating-related disorders. The center was founded by Dr. Kerri Boutelle in 2008 whose aim was to bring together a multidisciplinary group of professionals committed to develop and disseminate effective treatments for obesity and weight-related disorders for children and adults.
Our goal is to develop a better understanding of the issues related to unhealthy eating and activity behaviors and develop new and innovative interventions to help children, adolescents, and adults develop healthier eating and activity habits.
Our focus is on translating therapies and treatment modalities found to be effective in other domains and apply them to obesity, overeating, binge eating, and other unhealthy eating behaviors. By focusing on the individual and the family/environmental context, we hope to help individuals overcome and/or manage their weight- related issues throughout their lifetime.
In addition, we are committed to graduate level education and training of professionals in the medical and other health related fields in the treatment and prevention of obesity and eating disorders.
