Making this known because this place is not how it used to be. I use to love going to get seafood here back in 2019 but as far as today…. It’s not clean on the inside, food taste like it’s made in older grease and the place consistently smells like marijuana. I seriously do not know what happened to this place but If you have kids or little ones… do not take them there, and I will not be back myself. I love supporting black businesses but I will not support carelessness, sorry not sorry.
Today, I decided to revist Chef La's Fish Fry after experiencing an awesome meal this time last week. The food last week was great, I ordered the 3 piece whiting Fish basket and 2 Catfish tacos, etc. The food was seasoned to perfection by the female cook, I can't remember her name. Today, I decided to go back, just to see if the food would be the same, and it definitely WAS NOT the same, and I can't say that I was surprised. I ordered the 3 piece whiting Fish basket, fried crispy. It appears that you need to catch the right chef at the right time, because it appears to be a consistency issue with the taste of the food and I have experienced this many times, which is the reason why I stopped going so offen. A customer should never know when a different cook is in the kitchen because the food tastes so different and I don't believe the same cook who prepared my food 15 mins ago is the same one from last week. I honestly think it was the guy who was standing behind the cashier on his phone who cooked my order today. Sorry to say, but the fish was so bland with no seasoning that even the Texas toast had no taste. One thing about fried food, you can't add salt and pepper after its already been fried and hot sauce can't even masked the missing seasoning. Cook my fish as if we are at a fish fry in the backyard at grandma's house. Again, a customer should not be able to taste their food and notice theirs a different chef in the kitchen because of no consistency. Great place but how do you maintain greatness without consistency. Lenny
First time at this place. Customer service was good. I ordered a two piece catfish basket with fries coleslaw and toast. The fish was ok only because it was way to salty. My fries were well done basically burnt. The coleslaw came in a ramekin you would use for dipping sauce and tasted like a mouthful of black Pepper! Had I checked my meal before leaving I would have brought it back in. I’m not one for wasting food. I ate it but did not enjoy it.
First time dining here. Seating is limited but restaurant seems to be geared more towards take out. Allow a little extra time as food is cooked to order but definitely worth the wait The food was awesome!!! Customer service even topped that... Got to meet the man himself, Chef La. Sky at the front counter made us feel right at home. Peach tea was so incredible that I wish they sold it by the gallon.
I'm originally from Buffalo NY the home of the Buffalo wings but today I've had thee BEST wings in my life. I love shrimp and my catfish but these Smoked Fried BarBQue wings Blew Me Away!!!Continue to do what you're doing. The Lord is Please Food: 5/5
The young lady that answered the phone and worked the register was nice. Ordered the catfish and shrimp. It was ordered around 1p and was ready pretty quickly. It looked yummy, but for me it was a little too salty. The fries didn't really taste like they were cooked in fresh grease either.
I recently placed a last minute order of 50 smoked wings and Mac and cheese for Father's day. The food was great and the young man Jay at the front counter delivered great customer service and had a good demeanor. I'd just left another well known Soul food place in Smyrna that was very rude and unaccomadating before coming over to Chef La's. Treating customers well and having good food is definitely a win for Chef La's.
Outstanding Seafood Experience ! Without any doubt great Catfish, I had three pieces, with Fries and Coleslaw. My wife had King Crab legs with steamed shrimps. A whole different level of flavor! Prices are very affordable, small eating seating area. Flavor and portions 5 stars! A place not to be missed if you are living or visiting Atlanta, Georgia. To the New Yorker in this venue,Thank you for being so welcoming.
Omg! I'm so glad a relative recommended this place. It was delicious. We ordered the fried whiting taco basket and the 20 piece shrimp basket with sweet potato fries. I wish I had more money, I would eat here twice a week. It's worth the drive if you don't live in the area. Just a heads up, it's small, only 3 or 4 tables. So don't plan on dining in on weekends.
Hours of operation do not match what is published. could may want to call before going to the restaurant. Arrived to the establishment @620pm on a Friday, door was opened and walked in expectations to place an order. The dining area was full of folks enjoying food but I was told they were closed. Do better people...15th, on a Friday f it, let's close early. SMH
