The Cherokee Pass Volunteer Fire Department is an all volunteer fire department that offers fire protection and rescue services in rural Madison County.
The Cherokee Pass Volunteer Fire Department was organized in the late 1950's to early 1960's. Our department consists of 25 volunteer personnel and is governed by a board of trustees. Our jurisdiction consists of approximately 375 square miles, including approximately 80,000 acres of Federal land. This includes residential properties, farm lands, and recreational areas. The Cherokee Pass Fire Department maintains three fire stations located in Cherokee Pass, just east of Fredericktown, and Roselle. We also maintain three pumper trucks, three tanker trucks, two brush trucks, a rescue truck, and a water shuttling vehicle. We do house extrication equipment at each firehouse. We primarily haul and shuttle our own water for fire suppression as fire hydrants are not available throughout most of our covered area. Our department is not supported by a tax base and does not receive any routine federal or state monies. Our primary operating funds is derived from memberships purchased by property owners within our jurisdiction.
