Chicago Free School is a democratic, student centered school with an emphasis on student-driven, hands-on learning. We are located in Hyde Park-Kenwood.
Choice - students choose what to learn and how to learn it, through classes, projects, and free play.
Voice - Students take part in making decisions about school rules and manage their own democratic conflict-resolution process.
Community - A caring, family-like environment that is nurturing and safe. We offer a ratio of 1 teacher per 12 students and foster the building of meaningful relationships among students and teachers.
Inclusion - We have sliding-scale tuition based on family income so that everyone is welcome regardless of their ability to pay. We are committed to social justice and anti-racism.
Exploration - Learning is authentic, hands-on, and connected to the community.
