About

Chief Timothy Park Camp Store

Description

Chief Timothy Park sits on an island on the Snake River, known as the "Gateway to Hells Canyon Recreation Area." The campground has shade trees and lawn. There is a beautiful day use area as well as swimming beach, boat launch, and 5 docks for your boating use. All roads in the park are paved and all sites have picnic tables and fire pits. We feature 4 camping cabins, tent sites and full hook up pull thru sites for R.V's. There are 4 restroom buildings in the park, 3 with hot showers.

The cabins – which offer sleeping platforms, a porch, and air conditioning – were selected as on of the Top 25 most unique cabins in the United States in 2009. They are nestled into the hillside overlooking the beautiful Snake River. There is a convenience store located within Chief Timothy Park.

Visitors can see unique geologic features as well as many species of wildlife in the area. The land was once settled by the Nez Perce Tribe, and the park is named after a tribal chief.

Both Little Goose and Lower Granite Dam feature fish viewing rooms that allow guests an up-close look at the many species of fish in the Lower Snake River. Lower Granite Lock and Dam also has a visitor center that offers movies, interactive displays, brochures and guided tours.

Nice campground. Larger in person than it looks on a map. Not very many trees, but good campsites. Was very hot today June 13th.
Great camping spot, lots of spaces. Cabins are nice, they have a mini fridge, a/c, space heater, and 3 beds. There is a BBQ grate, and a firepit. Bathrooms were clean, staff was nice, highly recommend. Restrooms: Large and clean Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly, there is a dedicated dog swimming area. Picnic area: Picnic tables and BBQ grates
Infrastructure needs work. Information on available spots and what utilities are working on the spot would be great. Not much else going on here unless you have a boat. Pretty place but landscaping needs help. Lots of help. And last year, 2023, spiders were an issue. Ticks as well. Staff is friendly.
The park and grounds are gorgeous. The staff, literally every single person working there, are AMAZING. We travel for work and stayed here for a few weeks and it is one of the most lovely and welcoming places we have ever been. Do yourself a favor and stay here. :
Stayed a couple of days last summer. Quiet campground, neat location, full hookups, inexpensive. All that said, there are an apocalyptic amount of SPIDERS!!! They're harmless ord-weavers, but they cover everything. I hate spiders...
Nice pull through spots with grass and trees. Water views with little docks. Nice walk around the island but watch out for those spiders. If you don't like spiders maybe stay away in August.
Easy to get to, clean, and nice views. Friendly staff. Highway is kind of loud. Wish there were more hiking and things to do in the area. We drove to wonderful museum in Dayton and had coffee/pastry while there at Moose Creek Cafe and Bakery, which was excellent! Playground: Fun for kids Restrooms: Clean Picnic area: Many available
We walked the Island Loop Trail. There was a $5, day use entrance fee. Watch out for numerous dog poop on the trail, fresh and dried up.
I love the 24-hour accessibility unlike most surrounding campgrounds that close their gates at 10PM. The campsites themselves were clean and close to the river which was a plus. The only real critique is the closeness of the camps themselves when you intend to go camping to get away from others. But overall, it was a nice island to be able to camp on. The site offers an on-site volleyball and a basketball half court as well as cleanly, maintained bathrooms and s laundry area. Also, make sure to hike the trail loop which is an unpaved path that lets you walk around the entire island-just watch out for those spiders!
The Spiders took over this park. It is way out of control. I feel they could spray from the ground up. 24 of us went. Got bit. Had webs and egg sacks all over our vehicles. Tents. Inside too. Never will we return.
