Spent about an hour visiting with one of the volunteers. Was accompanied by two Missionary Sisters. A wonderful hour listening to their truth as seen through the prism of history as they experience it. Wonderful!
You can start your Temple Square experience here in the underground parking garage next door. Then come here to learn the history of the Church you'll see the various buildings for. Guides here will show you some simple, brief displays. Then, if you want probably few do you can spend time reading the many books in this big collection. So, yeah, it's a library. But it's also a great introduction to the rest of your walk around Salt Lake City. Air-conditioned, immaculate restrooms, super-nice guides, and no pressure.
Surprising amounts of incorrect/edited/censored historical literature and a little too much misinformation to be calling it a "historical" library. More like a historical fiction and propaganda library.
Really enjoyed the tour. I thought from the size of the building the tour would last longer Well, most of the rooms are off limits due to the value of the books. But there was more than enough in the large room we could go into to make the tour very interesting and worth taking.
One of my favorite research libraries. The staff is super helpful and the collections are fun to look through. Even if you’re not doing major research, I’d stop in for the tour. It’s one of the hidden gems on temple square.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
I have often wished I could be "accidently" locked in for the night because I find so much to search through. It is a genealogist's dream spot!! I have spent so many productive and exciting hours over the years doing my family history and helping my friends find their families. In the years past I have been there at 7:30 in the morning until 10:00 p.m. at night that is before the hours changed. I have loved all the excellent help interpreting and learning to recognize foreign language records. I could go on forever with how much I love this place!!
Modern and efficient building. More designed to interest historians both casual and professional than the general public. However, they occasionally put out displays for Conference time that are extremely interesting. If you are looking for information, the staff are helpful and friendly.
Watch out using your credit card in their machines! Mine was hacked. I bought a $6 thumb drive on the B2 level and was hacked for a $627 travel charge! Other than that, the library was lovely and the people helpful.
Looks like you cannot go in on your own and explore the history of the Mormons. Only tours, so basically not a public library.
I've been serving here at the Church History Library for over two years. It is wonderful place to be, great people to work with and so much to learn. Come and see.
