Casual Dining fun for the whole Family!
According to the Sanborn Insurance maps, the building located at 19 N. Main Street was built between 1890 & 1891. While restoring the front of the building, bakery signs were uncovered on the right side. The bakery dated back to 1910 & existed for about 25 years. Before it was a bakery, it was a drugstore & in the back of the building the sign "F.H. Robertson, Druggist" still remains. On the left side of the building, barber shop signs were revealed. The barber shop existed from 1905 until 1910 & was then replaced by the Elgin Cafe.
Over the years, the Cafe has changed hands many times. Whether a tavern or a Cafe, City Cafe has played an important role in Elgin's history. Imagine what stories could be told, if only the walls could talk!
