City Hall Restaurant

About

Built in an 1863 cast iron land-marked building, we are committed to the farm-to-restaurant relationship. Steps away from "the other" city hall, we are a favorite among government officials and locals.

I have been to City Hall Restaurant about 5 times and it never disappoints! The food is outstanding, the service attentive and fast, and the atmosphere is lovely. Sophisticated yet relaxed. Chef Meer is always there, circling the tables, greeting people, and making sure that everyone is happy. The last time we went, I had the scallops, my son had the chicken and my husband had fish. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. My sons love this restaurant. The open side on the street is lovely in the evenings in warm weather.
I thought this place was a little dull. I brought my parents here when they were visiting from out of town and no one was really that impressed. The dining room is very big and open, and I wished it was a little warmer. The food was good, but not great, and the waitress somehow accidentally added a $500 bottle of wine to our bill. Good food but I probably wouldn't go again.
This is a beautiful restaurant. Is spacious and the staff is very good. The food here is consistently good. I've been here on the company's dime and on my own. I heartily recommend to anyone. The area gets a little haunted on the weekend evenings, especially east and south.
Nice Atmosphere.... was very disappointed with the service. We were an after thought for the waiter....worst part was the following morning I notice the waiter had increased his tip by 5%. Due to the poor service I had only left 15% which was much more than I thought he deserved however the next morning when i checked my account, he had taken the liberty of increasing his tip to 20%.... to make matters worse we were there on Sat night and they are closed on Sunday and we were only there for the weekend. As opposed to spending 3 hours on the phone complaining about 20 dollars I thought I would let the waiter enjoy the extra money and warn everyone else so they do not have the same experience. as a side note the food was marginal at best....
I basically made a reservation because I pass by this place on my commute every day and the outside ambiance always looked amazing, and came out to dinner here with another couple. food was top notch. Every single thing that was served to us was amazing. The only thing that I think was just ok was the desserts but that's not why we went there anyway. The service was some of the best service I've ever seen. Our waiter was so knowledgable on food and wine it was unbelievable. I forgot his name but tall guy with glasses made our night memorable he was funny charming and knew so much. Best waiter we have probably ever had.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be : Food: Excellent! I recommend the crab cakes and salmon. Drinks: Excellent. Nice wine selection. Space: Very spacious and quintessential NYC. Very cozy and intimate feel while dining with captains of industry and politicians during lunch! Scene: It's the go to for the elite in the corporate sector/"captains of industry" and the political scene in NY. Crowd: 30-60s Service: Excellent. Extremely courteous. The bartenders will create whatever you are in the mood for.
Had the good fortune of being directed to City Hall when discussing local dining with a Tribeca resident. We were in the restaurant early and enjoyed an extremely attentive staff. The cheesecake is not to be missed. Incredibly light and a wonderful finish to the aged delmonico. Tuna tartare as a first course was fresh, bright, and among the best I've had recently. The experience was well worth the upper mid range pricing.
All the way from a little town in Trenton, Florida to the big city of New York, While on a trip for the week Pepsi treated us to lunch here June 3 2015 and it was FABULOUS. I loved the food, service, atmosphere and the experience. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.
Bad Hospitality, Bad Attitude, but Good food, Good wine, not Great Value. Biggest minus is not a good attitude towards hospitality. Case in point: my dining colleagues were freezing because the front door kept not closing all the way. One of my colleagues, at the prompting of his wife, got up and pushed the door closed and it closed with a bang not his fault, just no spring, heavy door, etc. The restaurant staff, even the owner, gave him hell. I was paying the bill and he didn't want to make a scene, so he just seethed quietly. His feeling, and mine, is that I am at THEIR house, and rather than thanking us for our business and apologizing perfusely to all my guests they be-rated them. Will not go to again. Prices high of course, not a good value even for Tribeca, but still otherwise an excellent restaurant. They just think too much of themselves. Not hospitable.
Came here for dinner in their Rose Room. Luckily it was all paid for =D The bread was only decent because one roll didn't sate much like anything while the other roll was really salty. In any case, the bread was really warm/hot and still crispy. I thought the attention to detail in keeping the bread really warm/hot was a good idea. I had no problem spreading the butter. I hate it when butter doesn't spread smoothly. For appetizers: I had the Watermelon Gazpacho It was somewhat refreshing. Had more a ginger taste to it. The shrimps that were in it were cut into small pieces and was a little soggy. They do give you a big bowl of it though, which was nice. Main course: Braised Beef Short Ribs with California Cabernet and Herb Crusted Halibut with tomato saffron stew. The beef short ribs was really good. Lots of strong flavors from the cabernet. The meat came right off. Wasn't chewy at all. I would definitely recommend this dish for the meat. The side corn/grits thing didn't really go well. Quite a weird texture. For the halibut, very much under seasoned. I guess saffron still costs too much these days =D The fish really didn't flake off. More like it came off in chunks. Not that great of a dish. The tomato base stew really added colors to the dish but the flavors fell flat. The sides: French Green Beans with shallots and smashed potatoes with olive oil and dill. I enjoyed both the side dishes. Beans were al dente as I expected and the mashed potatoes tasted fairly light, which was good. They didn't drown it with olive oil. Dessert: City Hall Cheesecake Just an okay cheesecake, not much cheese taste. Definitely felt heavy though. Staff was really friendly and attentive. Had no issues with getting service or refilling cups of water.
