The Decatur Cemetery is the oldest Burial ground in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and it is believer ro have been used even before Decatur's 1823 incorpoaration. Till dat it has expanded to 54 acres and contains well over 20,000 graves. A special section exists for cremated burials; the cemetery also contains a pond stocked with fish.
Very peaceful place for a walk or jog in the heart of Decatur
Awesome place to take a peaceful walk or stroll. Beautiful scenery, around every twist and turn. I love walking my dog there. I took hundreds of pictures. Peaceful & Relaxing. Also many very interesting headstones to look at. Love the way some people have decorated, the areas around their loved ones. IF YOU LIKE MY PICTURES AND THINK MY REVEIW WAS HELPFUL PLEASE LIKE IT. THANK YOU, JENNA
beautiful and historic. it’s my favorite place to be
Beautiful place for a quiet walk. Lots of different roads to meander through.
I was completely heartbroken yesterday when I went to the cemetery to visit the graves of 5 members of my family! In the 46 years that I have been to this beautiful, peaceful cemetery it was the shocking to see. My family members are in section 8 which is in the large center area to the left at the entrance. There has been NO GRASS CUTTING, WEED EATING in this area for along time. The weeds were taller than many of the headstones and completely covered the foot stones. There were several other areas where a lawnmower had been pushed thru but the weeds were still covering the stones and the cut grass had not been cleaned up.
Actually a really nice walk. Good mix of hills and trees and a lake and stuff. Lots of dogs walking around there which is why I was there so keep that in mind. Some people didn't keep theirs on a leash, which is super illegal, but they didn't cause me any trouble.
This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle and just walk around...backwards. No one is likely to bother you there; most are quiet to most people ... mostly A great place to meet new and old to feast; greater. But I like the older section. Bring coins and other favourite items like cigars and rum if you can afford to
Very serene. Mix of historical and modern graves. Beautiful landscaping. There is a small pond, a swing, and several unique grave markers. Several of the graves have windchimes.
Great place to walk around. Has special sections on the history of segregation and has placards placed around the cemetery to inform its vistors.
