SMPD Values Statement:
• INTEGRITY – Honesty, soundness of character and adherence to moral and ethical principles are paramount to the profession of law enforcement. We strive to remain beyond reproach in our professional and private lives in order to maintain the confidence of the community we serve.
• COURTESY – We shall endeavor to serve the public courteously and efficiently. Regardless of the aggravating or irritating occurrences that may seem a personal affront to the police officer, we must remember that courtesy is the keystone of any professional law enforcement career.
• DUTY – We will strive to fulfill our moral, legal and ethical obligations so as to honor ourselves, our fellow law enforcement officers and our community. We will conduct ourselves with professionalism, confidence and self-discipline in the fair and impartial application of the authority granted to us.
• TEAMWORK – We are a group of individuals acting together toward a common cause. Through our cooperative and coordinated efforts, we will divide the task in order to multiply our success. Open, honest and constructive communication between police officers fosters our common achievements.

• OFFICER DEVELOPMENT – We shall always seek to improve our technical and tactical skills as law enforcement officers. We will seek out educational opportunities for ourselves and our fellow officers. We will put forth our best efforts during training to receive the maximum benefits for our careers.
SMPD Mission:
Our mandate is to provide professional police service that will allow the citizens of St. Marys to live, work, learn and play in a safe environment. We will work with our citizens and other law enforcement agencies to economically and creatively solve community problems while always remaining sensitive to the authority with which we are entrusted.
