The City of St. Marys operates a full-time Police Department with 15 full-time State Certified Law Enforcement Officers, 4 full-time Dispatchers, 1 part-time Dispatcher, 1 Parking Enforcement Officer, and 3 elementary School Crossing Guards. The Department provides 24-hour coverage to the citizens of our community utilizing 6-marked video equipped patrol cars. Officers also patrol on bicycle and on foot.

The City of St. Marys Police Department is dedicated to fulfilling this expectation to the community by maintaining a professional, pro-active law enforcement agency through community oriented policing, established professional standards, quality training programs, and community relations.
The City of St. Marys Police Department provides a wide variety of services to the community, including traditional law enforcement duties such as: crime prevention, apprehending criminals, traffic regulation and patrol functions. The City of St. Marys Police Department also provides non-law enforcement duties such as: crisis intervention and mediation, coordinating fire runs, emergency medical services, utility services, and public education. The City of St. Marys Police Department also maintains a real time link through the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Crime Information Center, as well as numerous other international, federal, and state agencies. The Department also houses the City of St. Marys Emergency Operations Center in the lower level of the building.
Officers of the City of St. Marys Police Department are skilled in the various law enforcement disciplines, such as, traffic accident investigation, crime scene investigation, photography, interview and interrogation techniques, defensive driving, and communications, as well as other investigative skills.
