My Story,

I began my fitness journey on November 1, 2013. After being told by doctors that I was going to be on pain meds for the rest of my life for back pain, I decided that they were wrong. I was 30 years old and there was no way I was going to NEED pain medicine, especially for the rest of my life. I had survived Iraq, I was disabled, and I was lost, however, there was zero chance I was going to lay down for pain. I walked into my local Crossfit, Crossfit Van Buren and it seemed like a different world to me, high intensity training, when I was used to standard weight lifting, which was my outlet from my time in the service. I was determined to get healthy, at this point I had a BMI of over 30 and was pushing 295 pounds. I was miserable. I wanted to change but I had no idea where to begin, so Crossfit got me started. By the time the soreness wore off, my back pain had nearly disappeared and I had lost 20 pounds. Then, the weight loss stopped. I continued lifting but never could get my weight below 270 pounds. My problem was that I was eating like a power lifter, hoarding everything I thought I needed, but not really having a firm grasp on what food did to my body. I had almost given up on being fit and just trying to get as strong as I could. One day, I decided that I should stop eating processed foods, and educate myself on food as a whole, rather than following the typical “High Protein Diet.” It seemed like it was over-night that I lost 50 pounds. I'm not kidding, 50 pounds. I actually lost the weight in four months. That's when I made the connection that you can’t out train a bad diet. From that moment on I had to retrain myself on how to properly eat. I began learning about protein synthesis, amino acids, how the body processes carbohydrates, and how healthy fats aid in weight loss. I learned and studied what foods to stay away from and how to deal with food, sugar, and carbohydrate cravings. Over this periods of time I came up with an easy to follow guide of meal planning. Here's the catch though, it’s not my knowledge, it's the worlds and I just put it together. What I am doing with this business, is providing a service for people who are too busy to cook healthy for themselves. When life gets in the way of healthy eating, I want to be the business you can come to and keep yourself on track.

So, now for the secret to weight loss, EAT!! Eat real food, portion that food correctly. That is the answer in its simplistic form. Imagine a deck of cards give or take a little, that will be about 3 ounces of food, which is one portion. There are three food groups that need to be eaten at every meal; meats, vegetables and Carbohydrates (what?!). That's what I give you in the prepared meals, roughly 12 ounces of food (cooked) per meal. I want you to have a snack in the morning and a snack in the afternoon. I want you to continuously feed the fire the body generates. The second biggest key in body composition weight loss is to keep your blood sugar stable. Spiking your blood sugar will not only cause insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes, but is the key component in what makes us gain fat. My food is nutritious, healthy, and also high in fiber, which will help slow the absorption rate in your body..

A couple of key notes about the Clean Cookin’ Meal Prep meals: almost all of them are gluten free, I very seldom use dairy, I try to get organic as often as I can, and I cook pretty much everything from its base ingredients. I also try to only buy local, if I can. My belief is that if you use the best parts your product will stand out, and I take pride in the fact that my business has been growing exponentially. This started a social experiment for myself and blew up when people started seeing results right away from my food. I hold true to my beliefs, that healthy food doesn’t have to taste bad, and you can still be satisfied with smaller portions. My ultimate goal is to prove to people that healthy food doesn't have to be expensive.
