The college is dedicated to providing instruction and research essential to the University's mission and seeks to cultivate the habits of inquiry, learning, and service among all its constituents.
Facing the challenges of the 21st century, it is the vision of the College of Arts & Sciences to incorporate the new into our daily thinking and work habits, while we maintain the best traditions of the academy: the preservation of academic freedom, the nurturing of intellectual curiosity among our students and ourselves, and the sense of community that brings us together in a common purpose.
Consequently, the College of Arts & Sciences will strive for the following:
• to offer faculty, staff, and students opportunities for meaningful and collaborative work, along with opportunities for creative and intellectual growth;
• to create a working environment for faculty, staff, and students that is defined by integrity, civility, and mutual respect;
• to provide facilities for faculty, staff, and students that are comfortable and conducive to their common work , and make available the highest possible level of educational resources, support, and technology;
• to offer students rich educational, social, and cultural experiences that help them reach their fullest potential;
• to promote academic quality and support excellence in teaching and scholarship
• to become a connective hub of activity for the University, encouraging cooperation across disciplinary and institutional lines;
• to engage more of the public in the enterprise of higher education and • to help a larger public understand the significance of a broad-based education anchored in a tradition of the liberal arts;
• to create and participate in educational partnerships and mutually beneficial relationships with external communities;
• to establish administrative leadership that seeks to challenge, motivate, and support the faculty and staff, and fosters increased communication and consultation in decision-making;
• to expand both public and private resources and make them available to its programs;
• to plan, implement, and evaluate strategies that support its instructional mission.
