The College Park congregation is very pro-active in missions local and abroad. We believe that God’s Word is provided to us for our pattern of worship and everyday living. You will find a very loving and forgiving group of people who realize very clearly they depend upon the mercy and the grace of God. We seek to extend the same mercy to those who turn their lives over in submission to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible is very clear on the plan of salvation and we seek to assist the unbeliever in his quest for redemption according to the Truth of the Gospel.
We are a group of people drawn together by a common faith in Jesus Christ for worship and service. We wear no name but that of Christ, therefore we are simply referred to as “Christians” just like the early Christians of the first century. Our assemblies are family-integrated. We encourage the whole family to worship together.
Christ alone is Head of the Church. Our congregation is overseen by Elders (otherwise known as Pastors) who lead the local flock of God as they follow the teachings of Jesus. Deacons are in place to serve the physical needs of the congregation. We have no denominational affiliation; yet we recognize a particular fellowship “in Christ” with other congregations of the body of Christ. Members are encouraged to love their neighbors and to encourage one another in “love and good works.” We believe there should be no division in the body of Christ; and pray for unity to prevail (just as Jesus prayed in John 17) – based upon the teachings of the New Testament.
We believe in the authority of the New Testament for our ministry, assemblies and moral conduct. We are careful to follow the Apostles’ teachings regarding our assemblies. Our sincere desire is to worship “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24) Therefore, the activities in the assembly are carefully discerned. Every member is encouraged to do everything with a grateful and willing heart.
The Lord’s Supper is offered each Sunday, just as the Lord instituted, in memory of His suffering and death upon the cross. Our music is from the heart and is the praise of our lips without the accompaniment of mechanical instruments. Our prayers are not ritualistic, but are prayers of thanksgiving and petition from the heart, seeking God’s grace and His will for our lives. The preaching of the Word of God is an important part of our assemblies. God speaks to us through His revealed Word (the Bible); therefore, the reading and teaching from the Bible is an integral part of our assemblies. Our offerings (each Lord’s Day) are freely offered and used to support the work of the Lord: this includes evangelism (both local and abroad), benevolence and additional works of this congregation. The entire Lord’s Day assembly is both planned and organized in a way so as to ensure it is conducted “decently and in order.”
Salvation is in none other than Jesus Christ. It is received by obeying the Gospel (Rom 1:16; 1 Cor 15:1-4; 2 Tim 1:10). The Gospel is the good news about Jesus coming to this earth to save mankind. He died upon the cross of Calvary, was buried, then arose from the grave victorious over death and the grave. To obey the Gospel means to go through the death, burial and resurrection with Christ, through faith. The Bible teaches you must believe (place your faith) in Jesus, who has offered His body as punishment for your sins; you must resolve to turn away from your sins (repentance); to profess your faith in Jesus as the Son of God (the Truth, the Life and the Way); you must be buried (immersed) in baptism for the remission (forgiveness) of your sins (Rom 6:1-6). Obedience to the Gospel is how the blood of Christ washes your sins away. It also demonstrates the death of your old life, the burial of the old man, and a resurrection to a new life committed to Christ. Salvation is the work of God upon our souls when we are obedient to His will. Our salvation “in Christ” is an eternal life in Heaven.
You need to know that your Heavenly Father loves you so much He sent His Son to die on the cross for you. He took upon Himself your sins and became the sacrifice (offering) for you; He took the punishment that was rightly yours to endure, so you would not have to pay the penaly for your sins (eternal death). Without the sacrifce of Jesus on your behalfyou would be left with your sins and therefore the penalty would be paid by you. What are you waiting for? Your sins separate you from the presence of God and must be washed away in order to receive the promise of eternal salvation. They are washed away by Jesus in His blood (Rev. 1:5).
