Colonial Quarter

Description

For most of its history, the Colonial Quarter has been known as the Colonial Spanish Quarter. After an extensive multimillion-dollar renovation completed in three months, the site opened as the Colonial Quarter in March 2013.History of Colonial Spanish QuarterIn 1963 the Colonial Spanish Quarter was opened as a living museum depicting life in St Augustine in the 1740s. In the 1740s Spain ruled the area and St. Augustine was occupied mostly by persons born in Spain or of Spanish ancestry. This living history museum operated until fall 2011 on a 2acre site owned by the University of Florida and managed by the City of St. Augustine.Colonial Quarter Rebranding ProjectIn September 2012, Colonial Quarter LLC, owned by Pat Croce, who also owns the adjacent Pirate Soul Museum, and the University of Florida signed an agreement allowing Colonial Quarter LLC to operate the site.Work began on the site, renamed Colonial Quarter, dropping "Spanish" from the name. By November 2012 a sign outside the site announced the project would open in spring 2013, which it did on March 16, 2013.

Do not skip this! Phenomenal tour, so informative, fun, and a great addition to your trip! We only had a few hours and I’m so glad we did this. Bert was our guide and did an amazing job! Great for elementary kids!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
I wish I could remember our tour guide's name, but maybe you'll recognize her from photos! She was great. I thought my son would enjoy this place since he loves Heritage Village in Largo. I ended up enjoying it just as much! There's a cool blacksmith demo and great historical rundowns of the area and life back in the colonial days. There are also some interactive elements, a boat display, a flag exhibit from every flag flown over the city since the original Spanish conquest, and the place ends at the gorgeous historic de Mesa-Sanchez House. Must visit for any history buff. Also, the ticket seller gave us a nice discount for having visited the Pirate and Treasure Museum right next door, and was really helpful in navigating us to our restaurant afterwards.
What a place! This experience is great for family and friends. The tour is great and they are very friendly. The history is very fascinating. I especially love the interactive and walk arounds. This is a huge must-do in St.Augustine.Visited onWeekdayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedNo

This is bigger than it seems. Several buildings including the oldest house. The tour guides are worth waiting for they are very knowledgeable and offer many insights into more of the history of st Augustine. The watch tower is a unique view of the water front. Engaging hands on visual interaction with the black smithing, printing shop, old house set up, and for the finale the cannon ball boom!
Demonstrations of blacksmithing, cannon loading then being fired and others with the museum of a period house with furnishing from the era, a tower to climb and more to see plus our tour guide was gifted with an excellent humor and made the facts fun a enjoyable experience.Wait timeUp to 10 min

On our previous visit to Saint Augustine we could visit this place, but we did this time around...and what a treat.. is a big place where you will learn the way of life during the evolution of the city. Our guide Bob Jürgen Platanaredowsky was great, he is a living encyclopedia of knowledge... and he showed us all the workings of the Quarter... firing the cannon, doing some iron work, explaining all the houses, their construction processes, the ship replica..long story short it is a place not to be missed while visiting the city. Admire all the flags .... walk among the houses, specially the kitchen Take your time and learn the facts about life in an era long gone... There is an admission fee, but coupons abound, and you can get a discount Enjoy
We enjoy it but not really follow the tour. It was so crowded. But love the Canon part and mostly taking pics. ...Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
Oh my gosh, this tour was super cool. The man who did the tour was super funny and informative. He answered everyone's questions and encouraged everyone to look around and ask him anything. He was very kind and took photos with the kids. Super cool dude, very awesome tour.
