Colorado River

Description

The Colorado River is one of the principal rivers of the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico (the other being the Rio Grande). The 1450mi river drains an expansive, arid watershed that encompasses parts of seven U.S. and two Mexican states. Starting in the central Rocky Mountains in the U.S., the river flows generally southwest across the Colorado Plateau and through the Grand Canyon before reaching Lake Mead on the Arizona–Nevada border, where it turns south toward the international border. After entering Mexico, the Colorado approaches the mostly dry Colorado River Delta at the tip of the Gulf of California between Baja California and Sonora.Known for its dramatic canyons, whitewater rapids, and eleven U.S. National Parks, the Colorado River system is a vital source of water for 40 million people in southwestern North America. The river and its tributaries are controlled by an extensive system of dams, reservoirs, and aqueducts, which in most years divert its entire flow for agricultural irrigation and domestic water supply. Its large flow and steep gradient are used for generating hydroelectric power, and its major dams regulate peaking power demands in much of the Intermountain West. Intensive water consumption has dried up the lower 100mi of the river, which has rarely reached the sea since the 1960s.

The mini Atlantic City in Nevada is Laughlin. There are a series of hotels on the border of the Colorado River for you to walk through, have a bite or if you feel lucky, play in their casinos. The hotels are not new, but for a weekend, what else can you ask for. They have great value. There is a water taxi that takes you from hotel to hotel. They have handicapped access. If you are fortunate, in the middle of your water taxi trip, the ducks in the area will join you.
Drying up from overuse but still pretty. I really liked the line from where the water level used to be it added character. : My friend says 10/10 would go again, as long as next time I don’t almost drown lol :p
I did a kayak down the Colorado river experience on AirB&B and it was something that I will never forget because it was just so beautiful. The water is extremely cold and also very clear, I got to see many fish like giant sized carps swimming under my clear kayak. Theres bald eagles and lizards, and many other animals.
We are using too much water and hoping it will fill up for the many cities and areas who depend on it. But it is beautiful where it flows between the canyon
Beautiful experience and diffinite bucket list. Watching the canyon walls go by as you go down the river is incredible! We saw petroglyphs and all sorts of rock formations. A must do if you get the chance!
Hiked to the River to a beautiful camping spot. Just perfect for playing in water.
While driving on US 89A we stopped to take some pictures of the Colorado River and the Navajo Bridge. We walked halfway across the bridge to get a great picture of the River. There was a parking area where some Navajo People were selling some beautiful jewelry and art, along with other items of interest.
This spot is close to the town of Nelson Nevada. After visiting Nelson you can continue on a paved road and you'll end up there in about 5 minutes.

It just does not get any better than this folks. Fantastic for all water sports. During the hot summer months the river is home to thousands of boats on any given weekend. The scenic views are awesome. The view of the Topoc Gorge when viewed from the water is beautiful. The rugged Mountain View’s that surround the river seem to be never ending. The Off Road trails near the Colorado River offer some of the best scenic views around. The Off Road Trails are challenging and a blast to drive on with UTV Side by Side vehicles.
