Colossus (Ferris wheel)

Description

Colossus is a 180ft Ferris wheel at the Six Flags St. Louis theme park in Eureka, Missouri, United States. It is 165ft in diameter, weighs 180ST, and has a maximum capacity of 320 people.Colossus was originally debuted at the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair. It and the other rides there were operated by Six Flags, Inc. It cost $2.50 per passenger at that point. It turned at a rate of 1½ revolutions per minute which equates to 10mph.Colossus stands where the Pet-A-Pet petting zoo used to be. That was removed in 1985 to make room for the addition of Colossus in the 1986 season. As of 1992 Colossus was lit by 2200 lights which displayed a 24-pattern performance with a starburst finale. During the months that the park was closed they displayed a giant clock face which was visible to those passing on nearby Interstate 44.On June 17, 2009 there was a power outage at the park and as a result several guests had to be manually released from certain rides. Colossus was the most difficult one for the employees to release riders from, because, with no power, it had to be manually cranked to get the passengers to the ground, which took about 75 minutes.

Enjoy a tranquil ride with amazing views of the park. You can see all the rides as you get towards the top. It moves so slow it doesn’t even feel like it’s moving. There’s a nice breeze too! This is the perfect spot if you want to sit down for a bit.
This enormous ferris wheel does a good job avoiding one of the biggest potential problems with ferris wheels: a HUGE wait to get on and off. The staff are actually pretty efficient about loading and unloading so you don't feel like you've just become a prisoner for hours. The ride itself isn't too different from other large ferris wheels, but it is admittedly cool to get a bird's eye view of the park and all the rides.
Colossus is a giant ferris wheel that is constantly moving! It's a slow twelve minute ride, allowing you to see all the cool sights of the park. Great views of all the other rides, the construction, and the beautiful scenery around the park. They don't put people in every gondola anymore, it's like every fourth one or so. I really with they'd put the clock face lights back up!
Colossus certainly dominates the skyline over Six Flags St. Louis. You can't miss the nearly 300' wheel as you drive up to or past the property. The ride is enjoyable and smooth. I've enjoyed riding this wheel many times over the years.
This ride is great, especially if you have kids that want to do something slower. It is tall and provides a great view of the park when you’re on the ride. It wasn’t a long wait either!!
Great & probably the BEST ferris-wheel i have EVER rode!!!! Suggest u ride it! Its holds about 6 people! Have a Six Flags Day!!!
Not an exciting thrill ride, but has always been perfect every time we’ve been here. A nice ride to relax and unwind.
Horrible ride I do not recommend it it is slow boring and I rode it with my son and we both hated it the only good thing was the view
You can get some pretty sick views from this ride.
Not much to say this is big decently simple and smooth and is great to do with friends and family of all ages!
