Combat Air Museum

About

A collection of 41 aircraft in two hangars; the Combat Air Museum also houses a wide variety of military aviation engines, exhibits, artifacts and aviation art, from WWI to present day! We also have a Gift Shop and an educational conference center.

Description

We are a non-profit, volunteer run organization.

"The Combat Air Museum, located at Forbes Field Topeka, has served as an educational institution and tourism destination for forty-six years. It is one of a handful of major aviation museums in the United States located on an active air field. Visitors to our Museum are regularly treated to flying activities of Air Force fighter aircraft and Army helicopter operations. With the longest runway in the State of Kansas, large refueling tanker aircraft of the Kansas Air National Guard and army troop transports often fill the skies around the Museum. The Museum's "Young Aviators" classes offer students a unique opportunity to be immersed in the midst of a museum covering aviation history from the earliest days of flight to the present day."

My family had a really good time here. One of curators offered us a tour and told us all about the different aircraft. He was very knowledgeable. There were some things my daughter got to sit in and a flight simulator. We didn't do the simulator, but we watched another child who toured with us try it out and he seemed to have lot of fun with it plus the man teaching him to use it was very kind. The employees were very interested in my husband's service, so if you're active duty or a retired veteran, I'm sure you'd get the same attention.
This museum is absolutely worth a visit. We were surprised at just how much is on display! It is spread out enough that even though there were others visiting we never had to wait behind someone to see anything. Very informative and it was great to see so many military items up close. If you enjoy history take a few hours and visit. We spent about 2 hours walking through, and could have easily spent more time.
Wonderful customer service. This is a great historical aircraft museum. The Combat Air Museum has 2 hangars that have aircrafts from WWI and WW II aircraft. Great items at gift shop. The artifacts and military facts are inspiring. Some aircraft found here include the Messerschmitt, Lockheed Shooting Star and, F-15A and F14 Tomcat. Additionally, Chinook and ground vehicles can be found here too. The flight simulator is amazing and realistic. Glad this museum exists. Overall, very educational and interesting museum.
This place is so cool!!! Not only can you see tons of aircraft but the volunteers are super nice. We got to speak with two different Veterans who shared tons of knowledge and stories about their time in service. It really is cool how much they have at this museum. It was a nice bonus that everyone was SO kind!Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
It was so an amazing place more than I expected! There were also some very interesting former fighter aircraft on display around this museum. Only active duty members get a discount at the museum. Family members are not eligible for discounts. There is a souvenir shop as soon as you enter the museum. You pay the fee at the counter here. On this day, there was only one clerk. He was very friendly and answered all my questions. The museum is very well maintained and the exhibits are very nice, there is a small gallery on the second floor with paintings and other exhibits. We so much enjoyed this place! I highly recommend this place. This is worth of money to enjoy yourself.
Super impressive hidden find w much collection inventory easily accessible. Laid back and nice people.
Great experience! Kids really enjoyed seeing all the planes & helicopters. It was really awesome to get to tour inside some of them as well as get a chance to use the flight simulator! The instructor was very kind & patient as well! All around a wonderful way to spend a day!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Amazing museum, with lots of great stories. We really should be talking about the amazing art on display here. There's so much to see! The staff is great! They really made this an enjoyable trip. Their passion for the aircraft and this facility are inspiring.
What a treasure trove of history. Anyone with an interest in flight, the military, or the past will thoroughly enjoy the Combat Air Museum. Carter was an excellent guide that obviously has a bright future ahead of him in aerospace engineering.
Saw this on a road trip from Wichita to Kansas City. Nice smaller museum. It is obviously a labor of love by many veterans. I wished I had more time to spend here. Lots of vintage aircraft to see on the grounds of the Kansas Air National guard and Topeka Regional airport. With the admission price approx $14.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
