Ok. Have to vent. Never did this before here. I just stopped off at Contractors Equipment in Whitehall to pick up stump grinder that hubby reserved for weekend. I walk in. The guy barely says hi to me. Waits a while and says Is there something I can help you with like I was lost or something. I say husband reserved stump grinder for weekend and I am here to pick it up. He says he did not tell me you were the one picking it up. I say he is at work. Has rented from you before so yes I am. He says I am not ok with you picking it up. He says husband has to do it. I will not rent it to you. I say he is at work. He says well your problems just got worse. I say what do you mean by that. He says if husband does not get here before we close you are sol. I call husband and tell him about situation. I Then call action rental who has one and no problem renting to a woman. I leave Contractors Equipment but not before calling him a sexist pig telling him I have never been more insulted and saying I can operate a lot of your equipment better than most guys. Ugh. FYI had to give one star or I could not post but would not even give them one.
I wish I would have read the other reviews before reserving a rental from Contractor's Equipment Inc. At the time of this writing, there are three reviews, all of which rated the business with one1 star. We had a job within a few miles of this place. I called to order a scissor lift for the following Monday. It was $350 for the week including delivery and pickup. We actually own a scissor lift. However, I also needed our bucket truck on this job, and I cannot tow the scissor lift with the bucket truck. So, for $350 for the week with delivery and pickup, it would save me the time and fuel of making multiple trips to tow the lift down with my pickup then swap vehicles for the bucket truck. I use my PayPal business debit card because I get cash back. So, I transferred $400 to my PayPal and expected the lift to be delivered Monday at 9 AM. I got to the job before my coworker on Monday, and the lift wasn't there. I gave them some time, and decided to drive to the rental shop. When I arrived, I explained that I had a lift reserved for this morning. The smug man said, "Your card was declined". I responded, "That's not right. I have the card with me now, would you like to swipe it.". The man asked, "Is it the same card?". I responded, "Yes". He claimed, "Well, I need a $700 deposit.". I explained that this was my debit card, the fee was $350, and I transferred enough to it for the rental. I then offered to use my PayPal debit card to pay the $350, and to use my personal card for the $350 collateral. He bluntly said, "No.", then stared at me very condescendingly. I wanted the $350 rental fee on my business PayPal card, and not on my personal card. My coworker, who was on his way to the job site, had our business bank card as he was picking up some materials. It really shouldn't matter how I paid for the fee which I was never informed of in the first place. I happened to have enough cash with me $700 to pay for both the rental and collateral, and now I was behind schedule. So, I asked, "Will you take cash?". He quipped, "Do you have $20,000?". I responded, "$20,000? So, you think I'm going to run off with your lift?". He replied, "I need a line of credit.". Maybe he thought I was a bank. I inquired, "Why won't you take cash?". He stared at me for a while. Then he said, "I'm going to need a certificate of insurance from you, too. Yeah, I definitely need your certificate of insurance when you come back with your other card.". I don't think this is policy. It seemed pretty clear that he was implying that I wasn't insured. On the contrary, our policy could cover the replacement cost of at least 100 of his lifts. If this is their policy, the situation could have been avoided by informing me that they need proof of insurance and a $700 deposit when I reserved the item a week prior to this. I could have transferred the funds to my PayPal account and faxed or e-mailed our insurance certificate. Instead, they just decided to never show up with the lift, never call, and then be extremely rude when I visited the location looking for the rental. The good news is, my father had his schedule free. After I told him the story, he was more than happy to hook-up the trailer and bring our lift to the job site. The minor inconvenience was far better than giving the cocky Contractor's Equipment Inc man a single dime of our money. If we didn't have the luxury of owning a lift, I'm not sure what I would've done. I only know I would've driven 100 miles to another rental company before renting from Contractor's Equipment Inc. I have no idea how they're still in business.
They're arrogant and sexist. Took them 2 weeks to rebuild a pull start on a saw and charging absorbent amount and they never called me with the price.
