Cooney Funeral Home

There's a reason the Cooney Funeral Home has been around for 80+ years. They handled the services for my uncle and my grandpa and our family couldn't have been more grateful and lucky for the support, attention to detail and all around seamless service that they provided us, and every family with. They are the epitome of a professional, kind and accommodating family business. They genuinely treat every family as their own, and that's what sets them apart. You will not find a better funeral home/service in the Chicagoland area. Period.

Our experience with the Cooney Funeral Home was excellent. My husband died suddenly in New York, and we had no idea what to do to get him back to Chicago and how to arrange services. We live in Lakeview so looked for a funeral home online, and luckily found the Cooney Brothers. In addition to being very sympathetic, they took over all arrangements both in New York and Chicago, including finding a funeral home in New York to pick him up from the hospital and do the state-required embalming there, but also flying his remains back to Chicago. From meeting the plane to taking care of the funeral services to the graveside burial, all those involved Anthony, Matt, Kevin and Mike were extremely professional, caring and kind.

It took me a little longer to write this. On January 19 my significant other and father to my son passed away. That is how I was unfortunate enough to encounter the heartless owner. I believe his name was Matt or Max Cooney, this man had zero sympathy for the grieving father and claimed its "all about the money." Shortly after Steven passed away we were told by the police department that sometimes the funeral home director would allow us to to see the body. We were grieving and confused so me and his father decided to give it a try since either of us have yet to see his body, when we entered cooneys we were quickly told to get the hell out before the cops were called. Long story short the owner of the funeral home made this experience more painful and excruciating than it already was and needed to be.

The owners were unprofessional and inattentive. We had to check everything they did and they only responded to emails after multiple reminders. They were uncommunicative and didn't answer inquiries, forcing me to spend time and energy during a difficult period checking on details that should have been taken care of. In addition, there were multiple services going on at the same time and no staff from the funeral home was helping guests to the right destination, forcing members of the grieving family to direct confused and grieving guests from other families to the right room.

Do today is my grandpa's funeral but they showed no respect. But on the other hand they took good care of him. I would try going to another place but if it's the only place then go here.

Unfortunately, I’ve been here for funerals for good friends and family members. The place is clean and professional. Very well organized.
