Corropolese Italian Bakery & Deli located in Norristown at 2014 Old Arch Road, is a legendary Bakery featuring their bread as the superstar. Best bread I’ve ever had anywhere - hands down! Had to give them a visit when in town, as their Sandwiches are huge, with again their Hoagie Rolls being the best. Full line of Italian bakery items from cookies, cannolis, and their famous tomato pie. Love this place! Very friendly staff and quick service. Cheap LOW!! prices still, which in todays economy is a rarity big time.
Best tomato pie ever!! The bread, the sauce, portion and price is all perfect. I did notice prices have been going up but still at a reasonable price range. I recommend calling them early since they tend to sell out of items that I personally like.
This review is for non-locals. Any locals shouldn’t need a review for Corropolese or shame on you. ; Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, eating Corropolese tomato pie was as normal as eating Wawa “hoagies” and Rita’s “wooder” ice. Since moving down to the DMV area, one of the only things I miss about my hometown is the tomato pie especially since Corropolese is the best, hands down. The OG spot that I grew up with is in Norristown on Old Arch Road although they’ve opened up a few newer locations over the years to accommodate their growth. They have good bread and other baked treats like cakes, pastries, and cookies. And their hot/cold sandwiches, made with their amazing sandwich rolls, definitely hit the spot slow-cooked Italian shredded pork is so good. The market also sells other Italian goods like dried pasta and antipasti. But the highlight is definitely the tomato pie. Now I’ve found it to be very challenging to try to describe tomato pie to someone who is not familiar with it, their response is usually “so it’s just cold pizza with no cheese,” but the locals all know that’s just blasphemy. Having been to Italy recently, I can say it resembles the Sicilian-style pizza sfincione. The pie is rectangular with focaccia-like dough and it’s covered in thick layer of tomato sauce that is robust but has a hint of sweetness then sprinkled with grated cheese and they have stenciling available for holidays/special occasions & logos Philly sports, local colleges/high schools for that extra flair. Purists may say tomato pie shouldn’t have any toppings but those people need to evolve & embrace because as much as I love a good cheese pizza, toppings can definitely elevate a good pie. One of my favorites is the Supreme cheese, sweet peppers & pepperoni but website says it’s only available on Sundays. So if you’re in the area visiting friends or family, forget about cheesesteaks and grab a sheet of tomato pie or go for the 1/4 pies and get a variety!
Corropolese Tomato Pie is the best! It's hard not to eat a whole box by yourself. You know they knock it out of the ballpark when you find yourself driving well over an hour each way to take some Tomato Pie back home. Everything that I have had the pleasure of tasting there has been good brownies, cookies, etc. Now if I could only talk them into opening a location in Harrisburg! They could make some good money here -- we have nothing that even compares to what they offer. Can't say enough positive things... if you are near the Philly area, try them out. They have several locations. You won't be disappointed!
I have been eating tomato pie from Corropolese Italian Bakery since I was a child. This is the ONLY place I will get tomato pie from! I have tried from other bakeries, deli's etc. no one compares. I live in Delaware County and there are several local deli's that sell Corropolese tomato pie, this makes me soo happy to still have my hometown favorite. We have also enjoyed lunchmeats, rolls and other bakery items from here.
Love love love everything about Corropolese. Tomato pie the best, rolls and all. I even started getting my cold cuts there. Everyone is so very nice. However there's a lady behind the lunchmeat counter who wants to do everything hyper speed and she really can be intimidating. I felt so bad for an older customer. Some people you really need to slow down for. You can't tell her anything. She knows it all, even how to slice YOUR cold cuts. Wrong....I'm sure you know who she is, but she can be too much. Other than her. It's the go to spot!
Drove 1hr to pick up 2 Tomato Pies. They are Fantastic. Also sell great breads and rolls. Lunch meat, dry goods and frozen products like Ravioli and Homemade sauce. Also took home the Stuffed Shells and made them with their homemade sauce. It was a great Dinner. Taste Great. Can't stop eating the Tomato Pie. Pretty Crowded, Sunday afternoon. Friendly and helpful Staff. Building is Clean and well Maintained. A little tricky to locate if out of towners. Free off street parking.
I love this place been going here for years and my husband loves the breakfast sandwiches I gave five stars but unfortunately there was an incident that happened on Labor Day we went in to get some sandwiches because we were shopping all day and were hungry as soon as I walked up to the counter to order immediately was greeted with rudeness from what I can tell was a new employee cause I had never seen her before..nothing but disrespectful and rude and hitting her computer and says” what do u want “ that was totally uncalled for unprofessional and unacceptable to take ur frustrations out on customers because ur frustrated that ur busy I will not return to the store when she is there..the good thing is I had enough respect for the other workers and customers and didnt go off on her hopefully they did something with the complaint I filed
So I had to taste this pizza that everyone raves about.. I was expecting it to be the best red bakery pizza ever. Unfortunately it wasn't what I expected. It was very sweet but not a "tomatoee sweet" ..and the dough was white, soft, and undercooked... Maybe the potato chip version is better.
I really enjoy coming here, will keep coming back, and recommend Corropolese to anyone. I like their fresh breads, and I still have to try that tomato pie. My only suggestion is if you come during lunch hour to the Norristown location Arch Road, make sure to order ahead. It looks like they get really busy and stop taking sandwich orders between 12 and 1.
