This is the worst hospital you could ever go to. My mom had to be transported to Guthrie in cortland for chest pain and trouble breathing. She was gasping for air, throwing up and had a migraine, meanwhile we spent 2 1/2 hours with out one single person let alone a doctor coming in to check on her. mind you we were in the EMERGENCY ROOM!!!!! When I asked if this was normal I was met with nastiness and was told that they were very busy. I’ve seen a busy hospital this was far from it, you could literally hear a pin drop, not one time did I even see a doctor even walk up or down the hall. If you want the best care for your loved ones for the love of god do NOT bring them to this pathetic joke for a hospital!!!!
This is my partners and I's third trip to this ER and every time the nurses are in the hall gossiping and laughing while call bells are going off. They don't care if the cord for the call button doesn't work, they shrug their shoulders. Because of the faulty wire I've had to hunt down nurses for things and the attitude the nurses give back to you after you complain about waiting EIGHT HOURS or even asking them for assistance. If I could've made the trip the the Syracuse ER I would've, however, it's called an Emergency Room for a reason so do better Guthrie.
I'm not particularly fond of hospitals, especially this one. However, I gave birth here and despite everything, that maternity ward has some amazing nurses. More specifically, Tammy, Abby, Annalyse and a few others who's names I can't remember. These woman helped me and the father of my child through our long stay and were just absolutely beautiful human beings. They never made us feel inept or stupid, no matter how many questions we asked. Tammy really took the time to explain so much to us, Abby was a light of positivity in the dark and had a plethera of information to teach us, and Annalyse helped us with tips and tricks for soothing our son when he seemed inconsolable and never made us feel guilty for our lack of knowledge. I can't begin to thank them enough for their kindness and wisdom. They truly deserve an award for everything they did for me and I'm sure they continue to do for others. Bless them, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
before we left the hospital they told us they had already sent over my prescriptions now here we are 1 and a half hours later no prescriptions still. Let’s not even get into the fact of how many countless times I’ve been to this hospital and been basically told nothing was wrong with me then went somewhere else and got told something major was wrong with me. Cortland hospital is the worst hospital in the area. Almost all the nurses and doctors and technicians have attitudes and are rude to their patients. We sat there from 9am til 2 pm being toyed around with and told you guys were too busy right at that moment but you guys can stand in the hallway right outside my room having social hour? Makes sense. Sorry I interrupted your guys conversation with my health problems lol next time I’ll make sure I don’t come back there. Cortland hospital doesn’t care about its patients never have never will. Please don’t ever take yourself or your children here unless you guys are in a life or death situation
Worst hospital around! Multiple trips to this er and they give not a single care about you here. Coming in with a painful injury and sitting in the waiting room for over an hour to even be seen by someone is a joke. If I were bleeding I would've bled out with how long it takes them to see you. Not to mention the staff is rude and seem to be annoyed by your presence. If you want a chance don't go to this hospital!
Checking in for any testing on line is a waste of time. I registered, came through the sign in and was sent to registration. I arrived 15 minutes early for my 8am appointment. Waited over 15 minutes ar registration....now late for appointment. Get it together Guthrie. If only there were other choices in town...
The ICU and 2C staff were absolutely amazing! Loosing a family member is not easy, but the staff of the ICU& 2C were Professional, Compassionate, Supportive, Comforting. Our family cannot thank the staff of the ICU and 2C unit enough for helping us through this heartbreaking time in our lives. Guthrie sure does have some amazing staff, thank you!
Fifteen to twenty years ago, Cortland was a nice little country hospital. I have been in and out of the hospital and the attached nursing home with a family member for about 3 years now. Staff and procedures have gone down hill considerably. The nursing home has 2 aides and 0 nurses who care and those 2 aides do all the work. The ER is terrible. On one occasion I waited almost 9 hours in the ER for a family member to be seen by a doctor. The charge nurse never bothered to come in till I complained. I was not allowed to leave the room for the 9 hours so I know the patient was rarely checked on. I was in the ICU recently with a family member. Most of the floor was shut down. I'm very familiar with the ICU, having been there to stay with a family member almost every day for a month 2 years ago.The woman doing screenings and check in complained about the hospital being understaffed. So did the nurse and a cafeteria worker. The only time I have had an interaction that was professional was with a visiting nurse from out of state. I would give less than zero stars but have to give one to write a review. Update: 2/2021. A nurse called about a family member and told a caregiver that this family member had cancer. This turned out to be false. This is the 2nd time that this has happened. Cortland Hospital's excuse, "the nurse pressed the wrong button for the paperwork." !?!?! My daughter has a co-worker who was misdiagnosed twice in the last two weeks in the Cortland ER. She went to Upstate in Syracuse to get a correct diagnosis. Cortland Hospital was playing a guessing game with her, ordered no x-rays or tests. She was admitted to Upstate. Another update 4/22. A family member was denied care here after arriving by ambulance. He laid in the stretcher for the entire day with no care. No antibiotics for his pneumonia. He was shipped to another hospital 3 hours away at 11:30 pm where he died within days.
I typically reserve google for 5 star reviews, but this one is important. I have been on the phone all morning trying to find a psychiatrist not just here, something that is very important. I had heard great things, so I was very excited to get a step closer to solving my issue. I was met with an impatient, unprofessional, and very unpleasant experience. I was basically told I was out of luck, and one person even told me they would hang up on me because I was getting upset. No referral, no helpful assistance, or advice of ANY kind. If you are in a medical pinch, don’t even waste your time holding for their operators.
If I were to do it again, I would have gone to Syracuse. The ER doctors would not listen to me and my concerns. I was put on a medication that I have severe allergies to and was clearly noted. I saved myself from having unnecessary surgery. It’s very important to advocate for yourself, question everything and if it doesn’t feel right, get another opinion. Once admitted, the nurses and doctors were very nice but it wouldn’t recommend going there if it’s anything serious.
