The Couleecap Monroe County Food Pantry is one of three distribution sites for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in Monroe County, Neighbor for Neighbor in Tomah and Cashton Cupboard and Closet in Cashton being the other two. TEFAP foods are distributed along with food purchases from local vendors and the Second Harvest Food Bank as well as donations from individuals and local organizations. We also receive funds from the Emergency Food and Shelter Grant.
Our pantry provides a nutritious selection of food for families. We are a “choice pantry” meaning customers can shop for the food items their family prefers rather than receiving a pre-packaged bag of food items. Customers are able to select the food their families prefer within our selections and guidelines.
Individuals in Monroe County that meet income at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines may access the food pantry services once per month. If an individual(s) come to the pantry for emergency food and does not meet the income guidelines, our pantry will serve the individual(s) and then make a referral to other area resources such as Human Services or another food pantry without specific guidelines.
Couleecap fights poverty and promotes self-sufficiency for people in the Coulee Region. We identify needs, mobilize resources, and provide quality services to people and communities in four counties of western Wisconsin: Crawford, La Crosse, Monroe, and Vernon.
