Country Doctor Community Health Centers

About

CDCHC provides comprehensive primary healthcare services to anyone regardless of their ability to pay.

Description

Country Doctor Community Clinic was founded in 1971 by a group of community activists that recognized the need for medical care services in their neighborhood. Originally operating from an abandoned Fire-station in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Country Doctor was an all-volunteer free clinic offering services only in the evenings. As the community’s reliance on the clinic’s services grew, Country Doctor evolved into a respected primary care provider that today operates from two sites and offers a full range of health care services.

The Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center was similarly founded in 1968 by community activists committed to the ideal that health care is a right for all people. Medical clinic services were originally part of a broad spectrum of community services that was overseen and developed by the Seattle Black Panther party. In 1978 the medical program became a freestanding community clinic, and was renamed for one of the clinic’s founders, Carolyn Downs. From 1975 until 1994 the clinic operated from a location in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle. In order to better serve people of the Central Area, the clinic’s primary catchement area, the clinic was relocated in the fall of 1994 to a more central, visible part of the community on 21st and Yesler. This site is shared with the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic.

In 1988 Country Doctor Community Clinic and Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center merged and became one organization. Since their founding, the clinics’ primary goal has been to provide the highest quality comprehensive health care to their patients. From that goal comes our commitment to provide comprehensive care, combining outpatient and in-patient family practice primary care with community health care and preventive health education. It is in this way that the organization has been able to have a positive impact on the health of the communities it serves.

For over two weeks I’ve been trying to get a hold of somebody at the clinic. Sat on hold multiple days for over half an hour each time. Every time I call they are experiencing unusually high call volumes. Apparently they don’t want to establish any new patients. I really need help getting some care established as a uninsured person, and unable to afford the insurance required for most doctor visits. I’ve even left message, several times, marked them urgent to which they claim they will respond. Nope, completely ghosted me. And the sad thing is I’ve heard good reports about this place over the years. Very disappointing.
direct phone on their website is no good, was on hold for an hour. called the carolyn downs phone number and they were able to help me set up a new appointment and a link was sent to setup mychart.
I like this place, I had the fortune to see Dr Kovar i have NO negative things to say, i trust and he seem to get my health issues pretty well. I love the fact that it doesn't feel like people make their jobs for Money.
I have been going to this clinic since it was opened by Dr. Moore. He was my primary care physician until he stepped down. I have the choice to go to any other doctor in the city, because I have worked hard to get a career with the best insurance. I have lived all the way in Edgewood for four years, but you best believe I drove up to Capitol Hill for my appointments. Country Doctor Community Clinic has the most amazing staff you've ever seen. I love my doctor. We have a relationship built on honesty and trust. It goes both ways. I have seen a number of counselors there over the years & they have all been great and so helpful. The lab is so understanding with people, like myself, who are afraid of needles. They're gentle and calming. The front desk workers are a ray of sunshine on your cloudiest of days. The nurses all have an amazing sense of compassion and somehow an incredible sense of humor. They can pick you up when everything seems to be putting you down. The maintenance staff keeps the building immaculately clean & I am so thankful for that. It's not often you go into a clinic and have a sparkling restroom every time you go in. The pharmacy is quick and kind. They don't carry the controlled medications, and kudos for them for that. They are protecting themselves, and they're protecting you. The wait times are pretty much nihil. I've had a couple of times where I had to wait a while, but nine times out of ten, you get in early or on time. If you send a message on MyChart about an issue you're having send pics, it helps, they WILL write you back, they will call you back. They are so dedicated to their patients! They have someone there who's sole responsibility is to help people sign up for insurance. This clinic is a team effort. Not one of them can do their job in such a proficient manner without the rest of the team. No matter where I live in Seattle, I will never go anywhere else if I can help it. I love Country Doctor Community Clinic and you will too!
I had such a great experience the 1st time with Dr Allen that everyone else seemed less than professional and friendly.
Horrible experience here. No communication in the office, extremely disrespectful staff. They are more concerned with virtue signaling than providing patients with actual medical care.
Horrible place. Used to have good doctors, used to be a good clinic, now its awful.. They won't help you with anything. They Tried getting a vaccine forced on me I have 3 covid vaccines already and made me feel super uncomfortable about it, I just walked out. Didn't even bother getting blood work done because I was so uncomfortable. It felt very unprofessional. No I don't want to get my vaccine here. Simple. Don't have to push me to the point and arguing with me. I will get my vaccine on my own will. Also if you have a condition they just tell you it's all in your head.
I trust my Doctor, Sonja Olson. She is the best. She truly listens to what I am saying. Order tests if and only when needed. I am so very happy with her and glad I found her 8 to 10 years ago.
Very caring and exceptional Dr named Sarah Huffbauer and staff there are mainly very nice. This place helped get my life back in order after years of disability and recovering from drug addiction. The social worker helped get me a lawyer to recieve SSI over 10 years ago and I have recently last year got off of disability and started working again. I would not be where I am today without Country Doctor. Thanks to Dawn Fabian and Sarah Huffbauer!!
I always look forward to seeing my Primary Care Doctor at Country Doctor. It's a clean and safe environment. They are respectful to me. I have a chance to discuss and decide my care. No pressure. The last advise given saved my life. The follow up calls were much appreciated. I'm truly grateful. Thank You Dr. Laura Morgan and Her Team Nurses. A Special Thank You To Nurse Audrey for taking time to answer calls, answer endless questions and sending a message on Patient Portal to make sure I didn't forget and that I understood what I was being told. I know it's her job. Job well done.
