The mission of the PhD Program in Health Services is to train the next generation of health services researchers.
The PhD Program in Health Services consistently ranks among the best. Our curriculum is exceptional in the strength of our required courses in research methods, health care systems, health policy research, and the social determinants of health. We offer five areas of emphasis, and students have access to numerous research opportunities at the UW and at nationally recognized local research centers. The goal of our program is to match each incoming student with funding and strong mentorship. Students complete the program in about 4 years, and are consistently employed at graduation. Alumni from our program have received numerous grants and awards, and remain actively involved in the program.
The University of Washington is committed to excellence through diversity, and our Program’s curriculum promotes an understanding of the means by which social inequities and racism, generated by power and privilege, undermine health.
The mission of the PhD Program in Health Services is to train the next generation of health services researchers and to prepare them to provide leadership in the field. The program is designed to prepare graduates for research careers in universities, research and policy-making organizations, the health care industry, and government agencies. In recognition of the complex issues facing health care today and tomorrow, our program is committed to training students who will contribute to the health of populations by producing high quality research on important topics and translating the results to practice and policy.
