HISTORY OF THE CRESCENT “NO LAWYERS”
BAR & GRILL
Our business “The Crescent Bar & Grill” started at its old location since 1965. My parents, Ray & Hazel Ballard owned the bar from 1970-1980 when my husband, Butch and I purchased it from them.
We have taken the business thru many changes & in 1993 became a Sport’s Bar. –The first one in Boise to get Direct TV.
The Crescent Bar & Grill became “Famous” for it’s “No Lawyers” theme in 1984 due to a legal dispute with a lawyer neighbor of ours, who sued us & tried to stop us from putting a swimming pool in our personal residence. This started a legal battle that would last over 1 year, cost us over $10,000.00, & gave us unexpected publicity. We became instant celebrities and our business moved to the forefront.
Much to the lawyers chagrin!
We won the legal battle, got our swimming pool & created a new theme & logo- “No Lawyers.” We were able to make lemonade out of lemons & our business was put on the map.
Our business outgrew its original location at 413 N. Orchard (Now where Campos Market is) & we built a new building-at our current location-2 blocks away at 5500 W. Franklin Road near the corner of Franklin & Philippi. In our relocation, we did not change our theme or what we do, but adding amenities that we didn’t have.
We have ample and FREE parking-163 spaces-have 7500 sq ft of space in the interior bar area. We will have an outside patio bar w/ a full service bar that encloses for banquets (we offer buffet menus) & private gatherings that is 1200 sq ft- The patio bar opens to an outside seating area and 2 horseshoe pits in an enclosed courtyard area. We are family friendly and dog friendly on the patio.
Although we have added some new and exciting menu items, we will still have our tried & true great favorites proving that you can change locations and still stay true to who you, your business & your customers are.
