Dark Horse Farm sheep are raise on pasture, never confined. They grow fat and happy on a varied diet of native grasses, clover and browse.
Katahdin Starter flock for sale!
The Katahdin is a friendly, docile breed that will quickly earn your admiration. No shearing, they lamb easily, are good mothers, have superior parasite resistance, and they thrive on pasture. They are great at cleaning out a fence-row of poison ivy, honeysuckle, and saplings. They are much easier on the land than cattle or horses and way easier to contain than goats and just as funny!
Katahdins are also tough. For those of you considering getting into sheep, a Katahdin is much more likely to survive your first year as a shepherd than a less hearty breed. The truth is they really don’t need much help getting on with life, so lack of arcane shepherding knowledge is less likely hurt them.
Breeding records available showing dam, sire, birth weight, birth number, 60 day weight.
This is a nice group of ewes and ewe lambs. Wish I had a bigger place, I’d keep em all!
