Mission

Sikh Religion :
Sikhism is one of the youngest world religion. It is a strictly monotheistic faith, preaching the existence of only one God, and teaching universally acceptable ideals of honesty, compassion, humility, piety, social commitment, and above all tolerance for other religions.

The word 'Sikh' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'shishya' which means a disciple, a learner, a seeker of truth. A Sikh believes in One God and the teachings of the Ten Gurus, embodied in the Eternal Shabad Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. The Basic beliefs must be followed in Sikhism. Additionally, a Sikh must also partake Amrit, the Sikh Baptism. Every sikh is supposed to follow the Sikh Code of Discipline.

This place was incredible! The exterior was far more impressive then looked in the pictures, and the interior was byfar the most beautiful of all the Sikh temples I've seen. The guy who I guess is the caretaker invited us inside and gave us a tour and told us we could sit inside if we want to. We donated $5.00 to the temple and he gave us rice and some bananas for the road. No plates or fork. Just gave us a napkin and dumped the rice in our hand, so we got the full cultural experience. I highly recommend taking a detour to visit this place, even if you aren't Sikh. Even if you're just interested in Indian architecture or foreign cultures, it's worth visiting this place. True hidden gem of Salem.

What a wonderful welcoming community!! They feed you regardless of who you are; all the food are vegetarian. The Sikh community has always been kind & generous. Many people tend to confuse them with those of the Muslim faith due to the turbans, but their religion 24M strong worldwide is separate & distinct from Hinduism & Islam.
