Providing fire and EMS services to the citizens of the City of Deer Park and the Village of Silverton
The Deer Park-Silverton Joint Fire District protects 12,350 people living in an area of 3 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area, with some retail and light industry. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. We have an ISO rating of 3. We provide the following services to our residents: structural and wildland fire suppression; ALS and BLS transport services; fire prevention programs; and operational level hazmat and rescue response.
The Deer Park-Silverton Joint Fire District is located in the north-east side of Hamilton County, Ohio. The city of Deer Park and village of Silverton are suburbs of metropolitan Cincinnati and comprise the bulk of the fire district. We also provide ALS services by contract to Amberley Village, as well as fire and EMS services to the northern portion of Columbia Township.
Our district contains many unique hazards as part of our response area. In our own first-due area we are responsible for Interstate 71; US 22 / OH 3, a state/federal highway; a CSX rail line; a large tank farm for the storage of ethyl alcohol; 4 schools; and 3 residential institutions. All of the residential institutions have units for the specialized care for patients suffering from memory issues such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, which pose challenges to emergency responders in the event of fire or other disaster.
Our automatic aid response area includes a major hospital; an FBI field office; an industrial gas service which provides compressed gasses for industry and bioscience; two large malls; and numerous “big box” stores.
Our department is active in regional collaboration with nine (9) other fire departments in the East Chiefs Work Group, which is a subdivision of the Hamilton County Fire Chiefs Association. Through this group we are working towards the standardization of responses to emergencies, implementing best practices, and sharing the cost of fire and EMS training.
The department consists of 9 full-time firefighters, of which 8 are paramedics, and 1 full-time fire district clerk. The full-time staff is supplemented 39 paid-on-call and/or part-time Firefighter/EMT/Medics. The department operates a paramedic level life squad and operates 2 engines, 1 ladder, 2 ALS transport units, 1 BLS transport unit, and 2 support units.
The mission of the Deer Park-Silverton Joint Fire District is to mitigate the threat to life and property from fire, medical and other emergencies through education, prevention, community preparedness and emergency response. We will actively participate in our community, and strive to effectively utilize all of the necessary resources available to provide a service deemed excellent by our citizens.
