deFredenburgh Hall is a ten story high rise, suite building with coed living conditions. There are four suites on each floor for either six or eight people. All upper floors have a great view of the college campus, Lake Champlain, or the Adirondacks.
Named After First Settler of the Plattsburgh Area deFredenburgh Hall was dedicated on March 13, 1970, in honor of Count Charles deFredenburgh, who was the first European settler in the area. He was the founder of a settlement called Freburg which occupied the sight of present day Plattsburgh.
FacilitiesThe first floor houses the residence director's office, the mailroom, and pay telephones. There is also a lounge, with television, vending machines, a ping-pong table, and a kitchenette area. In the lower level there is a study lounge and a laundry room which is fully equipped with washers and dryers. Even numbered floors in deFredenburgh Hall each have their own floor lounge, with a television.
Adjacent to deFredenburgh Hall are Clinton and Algonquin Dining Halls. deFredenburgh is also relatively close to the outdoor recreational facilities, which include six tennis courts, and is near one of the largest on-campus parking lots. Another attractive feature of deFredenburgh Hall is its proximity to Sibley Hall, one of the academic facilities on campus.
The mission of the Housing and Residence Life program at SUNY Plattsburgh is to create quality communities within which students can learn, develop and flourish academically and personally. The residence halls provide a safe, secure, well-maintained environment, which address the academic and personal needs of the individual. Students' growth is complemented, supported, and enhanced through the staff members' ability to know their residents, their awareness and use of the campus and community resources, and the offering of social and educational programming. It is important for our program to create an environment where students truly appreciate, respect and value the people they have the opportunity to live, work, play and learn with.
