Welcome to the Department of Geography and Anthropology at Kennesaw State University. We study people from all times and places, and how they interact with the world around them. Our students leave our programs with the knowledge and skills to enter the globally focused world in which we now live. Internships, both local and abroad, field schools, and directed applied research courses provide out students with the opportunity to work in the fields of anthropology, geography and geographic information science before they graduate, so that they are prepared for life after college in the career world or in graduate school.
We offer three degrees: a BS in Anthropology, a BS in Geographic Information Science, and a BA in Geography. We also offer a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems and three minors: Anthropology, Geography, and Native American Studies. Students in our majors are encouraged to apply for the Global Engagement Certificate, which provides official recognition of a student’s commitment to global learning. There are active Anthropology and Geography Clubs in which our students make lasting friendships as they explore their chosen areas of study.
Our faculty members are among the most active in the Study Abroad Programs offered at Kennesaw State University. Our professors have taught in study abroad or research abroad programs in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, China, France, Greece, Italy, Peru, Russia, and Spain, and new programs are being developed. Our faculty members are also affiliated with numerous other programs and departments on campus, such as African and African Diaspora Studies, Asian Studies, Classical Studies, Environmental Studies, and International Conflict Management.
The opportunities are here for students who want to be more connected to the world, its peoples, and its cultures. We encourage you to start your journey with us now.
Enjoy looking at our website, and let us know if you need any further information.

The Department of Geography and Anthropology is a student-centered department committed to fulfilling the mission of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, which is to prepare students with a liberal arts education that empowers them to understand the human condition, to meet the challenges of the 21st century, and to become contributing citizens in a global society. Geography seeks to study and understand the distribution and dynamics of human and natural features and the interrelationships between humans and their physical environment. Geographical Information Science applies geospatial technologies to analyze the spatial processes produced and/or modified by human-environment interactions. Anthropology examines prehistoric, historic, and contemporary peoples with such topics as human evolution, subsistence and settlement patterns, family, urbanization, development, transnationalism, globalization, social conflict, gender, symbolic systems, and human ecology through its archaeological, socio-cultural and biological sub-disciplines. Thus, the Department seeks to provide and enrich students with a curriculum that addresses these components regarding the world's human, cultural and physical systems. The Department is committed to conducting high quality research that reflects faculty expertise and interests; collaborative research with students is promoted. The Department strives to address the advisory and informational needs of the students, the University and the community at large. Through teaching, scholarship and service, the Department is committed to providing students with the knowledge, creativity and skills necessary to become productive global citizens of the world.
