Devils Fork State Park

Description

Devils Fork State Park is in northwestern South Carolina on the eastern edge of the Sumter National Forest at the edge of 7,500-acre (3,035 ha) Lake Jocassee. It is located three miles (5 km) off SC 11, the Cherokee Scenic Highway, near tiny Salem, South Carolina. The park offers hiking, camping (including several paddle-in primitive sites), canoeing and kayaking. The park is well known for rainbow and brown trout, as well as largemouth, smallmouth, and white bass, crappie, bream and catfish. The park has accommodations for scuba divers, including a walk-in ramp; thirty foot visibility is common, and due to the lake's recent creation, roads, houses, signs and other marks of human habitation can be seen on the lake bottom. The 622acre park was created in 1990. The park has many small waterfalls that feed lake Jocassee, and is home to the Oconee Bell, a wildflower indigenous to North and South Carolina that grows throughout the park; more than 90 percent of the world population of these delicate white and pink flowers are found in the park.

Fantastic park even in the rain. Took the waterfall river cruise and it was fabulous. You could only see waterfalls from the boat and well worth it. Lots of nice hiking trails too. Campground was immaculate. And reasonable. Sites were far apart and very quiet. Restrooms: Very nice marble and wood rest rooms.
Lake Jocasee is breath taking. It is so clear that they actually offer scuba diving here. There are a couple of places to launch your boat. There are picnic tables, places to fish, clean restrooms, a ranger station and a small shopping venue. There is a place to rent kayaks, canoes or even motorized boats. There is a waterfall on the lake, but is only accessible by boat. The park is exceptionally clean.
Spent several days Mid February 2022. Beautiful clear lake wonderful trail with signs of the vegetation. The camp ground was peaceful an the spots had been leveled out. Some have lake views. We enjoyed our 4 nights.
Absolutely love Devils Fork in Oconee County, South Carolina. We often go and launch our kayaks from the park. The park is always very clean and well run. If you get there when it is busy and there is no more parking you are out of luck as they will not allow you to enter until more spaces open. I’d suggest going early! Get out on lake Jocassee. The water is clean and fun to swim in, paddle board, boat, sail, or whatever else you’d like to do on the lake. You can also camp at the park, rent kayaks, and places nearby will rent pontoon boats to you as well. Get out there and enjoy this magical spot!
The park is well maintained and easily accessible. There are restroom facilities, camping, hiking, boating all in a beautiful natural setting. I highly recommend the Jocassee area and Devils Fork State Park for making memories with family and friends or for solitude. Get out and enjoy the outdoors!
The campground road between sites is extremely rough and the sites can be very steep to back into. The bathhouse was adequate. The neighbors had bear issues over two or three nights resulting in the loss of their cooler. The boat launches/ramps are very nice and Lake Jocassee is beautiful and CLEAN Did not see ANY trash anywhere- NICE JOB!!! We WILL be back again!
GORGEOUS place! The lake itself is gorgeous but then the mountains in the background just seal the deal! There are so many things to do - fishing, boating, hiking, kayaking, etc. We were only here for the day but still definitely visit again. Hopefully we'll have a boat next time.
We came to Devils Fork State Park to get our ultimate Outsider Stamp! I will definitely be back here during the fall/autumn months. But honestly, anytime to visit Lake Jocassee! This lake is beautiful! I also loved their little store. They had a great variety! I was able to get some stickers and magnets, as well as some great pamphlets for my hiking pack! Restrooms: Restrooms at all the docks. Dog-friendliness: You can't take the dog in the park store but everywhere else seemed very dog friendly.
This place is absolutely beautiful. The water is so clear and blue. The mountains that surround it are breathtaking. Plenty of places to set up with family along the lake to swim, layout, and cook. There is a place to rent kayakes, paddle boards, etc. They have a snack shack and restrooms close to the beach area. Lots of campsites/tent sites. We will be back for a full weekend soon.
Devil's fork is one of our favorite parks. We like to visit on a weekday when it's not so busy. Scuba diving, boating, kayaking and hiking are the main activities. There are two hikes near the visitor center that are actually pretty easy. Definitely watch for snakes; especially along the lake shore. Plan on there being wait to get into the actual park. We have waited for half an hour at the entry and been declined entry on busy days, Like I said, this is a popular park. If you intend to rent a boat, Lake Jocassee has become very popular in the past few years. There are several rental companies you can pick from. We have had good experiences with all of them. Definitely book months in advance. Four stars because parking is very, very limited for vehicles without a boat trailer. Also, boaters are very novice, and not always respectful of people in kayaks or swimming. There are limited restroom facilities around the lake that also make it a little challenging with little kids.
