Avoid this airport at all cost if you are checking a bag. Or if you don’t like sitting on the tarmac for 30 min. They seemed really understaff for all normal airport operations. They only have one functioning terminal because they don’t have enough staff to taxi and more than one aircraft at a time. And they also take about 40 minutes after flight lands to get the check bags to to baggage claim. The airport itself is clean and well-kept, but not worth it.
Nice airport, could use additional coverage in the rental car area. Nothing like getting soaked trying to find your rental car. Lol
If I could give zero stars we would. Had an absolutely awful experience here at this airport. We rented a cat and parked our truck there overnight when we came back to pick it up we noticed our lid for the toolbox on back was wide open and somebody had pryed into it. We went to security and they told us we were screwed because we were out of camera view. We explained we were not paying for "secured parking" if our stuff was broken and broken into but they made us pay regardless and didn't even try to help us figure out anything. Worst experience ever. Won't be back.
I’ve been through this airport 3 times in the last 4 years and have had good experiences as I was just passing through but when I flew home on Friday 6/9/2023 I actually had an interaction with a woman who checked me into my flight. I’m transgender, with saying that I’ve had interactions that have negatively impacted me, and it’s unsettling. So when I needed to hand her my ID, I also included my work badge since it has an updated photo, she acknowledged my name, and she just said a simple statement of “I’m for it”. Her smile, personality was welcoming and most importantly safe! My second interaction was when I was going through security, the woman who was verifying my ticket saw that I’m not the average citizen and she said “Respectfully what would you feel comfortable with-Blue or Pink?” She also kept her tone down to respect my privacy. I really wasn’t sure what to expect this time around but I was impressed by the two women who I had brief interactions with. I was impressed, happy and also relieved. I flew in the morning of 6/4/2023, I didn’t see any pride flags when I first arrived, and that made me extra hypervigilant. I hope within the coming years that will change because “All are welcome”.
Outdated & unkept. From inadequate marked parking, to every hand sanitizer station being empty. This airport could be much better, but just isn't.
Quick and easy, usually get there around an hour before our flight, only takes minutes to get through TSA and it's a short walk to the departing area of the airport. Save on time, tolls, and gas, plus the aggravation of dealing with traffic. When you factor everything up it's a no-brainer!!
Such a nice, small well run airport. I believe there are only 8 gates. There always seems to be plenty of parking. And the prices seem very reasonable. The garage, which is attached to the airport, is $14/day currently. There is only one store/coffee shop, which is open super early in the morning. It's a Duncan. It includes a bar but I have never seen the bar open because I have been there in the morning. There never seems to be much time to get through security. Which makes this part of why I love such a small airport. Unfortunately, this airport doesn't do direct flights to very many places and that's probably the biggest downfall. But that's mostly due to COVID from what I have been told. But that's not the fault of this nice airport.
The efficient design and size make this airport convenient. I arrived a bit earlier and used the meditation room, it made for a pleasant beginning of my journey. They also have a charge station you can use and many outlets located next to seating.
It's a small airport but they do have international flights from the Caribbean. Don't plan on a dining experience - Dunkin and another vendor is about there is. Clean. The law enforcement officer was much more helpful than the airport worker in his green vest. Parking was $3.00 for the 45 or so minutes that I waited for more family to fly-in. I used the ramp so the car would stay cooler. Simple access between the ramp and the terminal.
Welcome Back to Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton. Frequent Flyers know most airports have a welcome sign somewhere between the exit gate and baggage claim. This airport is the only instance where the sign includes the word “back”. It does not bother to pretend arriving travelers are visitors or tourists. The sign makes it obvious that the vast majority passengers are returning home from a trip to somewhere better. Kudos to them for honesty.
