We believe that everyone should have access to organic, chemical free, local produce. We are fourth generation farmers with a passion for food and fun.
The older I get the more I appreciate the simple things I use to take for granted. Do you remember when fruits and vegetables use to have juice and flavor? There are many engineered reasons why they do not today. We have traded long shelf life and larger crop yields for the healthy, tasty alternative that most of us grew up with.
My family have always been farmers- either commercially or as a hobby. My great grandfathers and their fathers on both sides sold fruits, vegetables, butter, milk and eggs in the Bluefield area. Some of my favorite stories are of my Grandpa Wimmer driving his team of horse and cart to "town" to sell his wares. It was a hard but healthy life.
I look around now at the obesity and unhealthy food habits - especially in the Appalachian area. What happened and when?
This is a labor of love. We might fall flat on our faces in this attempt. But having grown up planting and harvesting and loving the value of home grown produce it is our intention to share this with as many folks as we can! Remember this when we are peddling our "wares". Do you want to eat the GMO Frankenfood of the big chains or something that was lovingly grown, pesticide free - hand watered and hoed with love with the Hands of your friends! And yes - it's Dirty Girl Farm - because in some form or capacity, I always have been!
