Excellent school. Going through DIT I was very impressed with the safety standards set by the instructors, along with the care and constant upkeep and maintenance of all the equipment. Not only did they show interest in your well being and success at the school, there were daily post-meetings with the instructors and they would check in with students to see how they were doing out of school with stuff like living, food, and mental health. There was a lot of dive time and unlimited resources/tutors to help with school work. There were so many job offers a month before our class even graduated. I was able to keep a job to support myself fully while going to school. With my experience at DIT, I wouldn't want to have picked anywhere else to get my training.
Shout out to Michelle Paulino! I’ll start there. She is the admissions officer and if you are thinking about commercial diving school and need help getting started with the Q and A...call Michelle! My son attended DIT last year and it was a tough transition. He was only 20 years old and moved 3000 miles away from ALL of his family and friends. He flew out to Seattle, unaccompanied, and I was frantic...barely moderately sane over him leaving home. I called Michelle. And I called her and called her and called her... She checked on my son and made sure my questions were answered. Eventually, the helicopter flew only over my son on Sunday nights when I sent Grub Hub. My son graduated in late January and we set out for a week long road trip of the Pacific Northwest. Two days in, we got as far as Oregon a call came from the DIT job placement office...they had something. It was good... My son got his certifications together, emailed them and got on the phone to set up an interview. We flew home the next Sunday. He interviewed on Tuesday. He left the next Sunday for, what absolutely seems like, a lifelong career with a HUGE nationwide worldwide? company. I don’t know...the helicopter has landed. It’s a HUGE company and he’s happy. I won’t be specific about the starting salary, but he turned 21 two weeks ago and he is earning very close to what his father earns and his father was in a NYC union for 30 years. My son is going to do well and be financially secure because of his DIT education. As a parent, we all want our children to go to a school where their education feels valued by the people who run the school. We pay taxes or we pay tuition and for our money, we want results. We want depth. We want our child to be appreciated. We want these kids to leave fully owning their educational experience. We want our children to succeed- and be happy, productive adults. I think...but I’m just a helicopter mom from Jersey, that DIT is the very best choice for people seeking a career in commercial diving. I trusted my 20 year old son to this school, 3000 miles from home, in a strange town, and all alone... He made it. Not only did he make it...lol...but I survived it shout out to Michelle Paulino!. I could go on...but I won’t. My son’s story is a success. If you have a dream, dream big. DIT will get you there. Put in the hard work and the fruit of your labor will be rewarded. You will not be alone and DIT will buttress you through to a lifelong career that you will love! This is an amazing school! We could not have made a better choice. I’m SO GLAD we heard about this school from a teacher at a maritime career fair in Secaucus. We went for the free scuba lesson and came out with the answer.
I’ve never been but I’m open water dry suit nitrox computer and surface supplied air and cpr&aed certified. And I already did my fasfa and it said I’m basically approved question is do you guys accept disabled people. In November I had back surgery I’m relearning how to walk everything is back besides my function of my right foot makes it a challenge to walk will that effect you guys accepting me?
This training is outstanding. The instructors are world class divers. JP, Frank, and Willy are Navy legends. The staff are there to help you succeed. International certification and standards that rival the US Navy. Completing this course was one of the best times of my life.
Currently a student and nothing but great things to say about Divers Institute! Instructors are extremely knowledgeable with the experience to back it up. The staff is always eager to help and have made registering and dealing with the VA a breeze! Attending DIT has possibly been the best decision in my life and I have met some life long friends along the way. 10/10 would recommend!
I had an amazing time at this school, probably some of the most fun I have ever had in my life. The best part is that I got hired by an awesome inland diving company before I even graduated. One thing to keep in mind is that very very few people make it in the industry. It's not the fault of the industry, it's just that very few people can hack it. I found that dive school was super easy and a lot of fun, if you think it is hard, you probably aren't cut out to be a commercial diver, because from what I've experienced, the hardest day at school is like the easiest day at work.
I graduated in 2011 and have been in the industry since. The staff and instructors are extremely knowledgeable and professional. I had a job almost immediately after graduation, with help from the school. DIT set me up with the training I needed to be successful in the dive industry and continue to offer help whenever I need it. It was a great experience and if given the chance to go back, I would gladly do it again.
I attended DIT several years ago after they moved to their new facility. If you are interested in becoming a well roundedand marketable diver you would be hard pressed to find a better school. The facility are top notch as are the instructors. In addition to this their job placement department opened opportunity up that would not have been available otherwise. But like anything in life they can only take the horse to the water... they can't make them drink. Hard work and determination are required to make it in the industry.
Veterans be aware of your education benefits and how schools use them. DIT charged the VA for one month of school that I never attended. I was investigating going to DIT and registered for class. Due to some personal issues with money and family events, I dropped myself from the program days before class started. I informed the VA over the phone and DIT's office staff in person. I met with James Sylvester Director of Admissions at the time, and he assured me I was not enrolled as a student. I left their building under the pretence that I was not attending the program. One month later I get a deposit in my account from the VA for housing allowance. I called DIT and they went ahead and billed the VA for one month of tuition from my Post 9/11 GI Bill. The DIT employee on the phone was apologetic and supposedly took my name out of the system. I followed up with the VA one week later and their records indicated I was still enrolled. Third time is the charm I guess. I called DIT again and they finally unenrolled me. I had to re-pay the VA the housing allowance, and I have one less month of my GI Bill without attending one day of class from DIT. DIT was not cooperative in any of my efforts to reimburse me for the money they took from my GI Bill. Be aware! Nobody cares about your own benefits more than yourself!
