Doctors Medical Center San Pablo Campus

Description

Doctors Medical Center was an eight-story creekside hospital in San Pablo, California. It was the only cardiac/STEMI, stroke, and cancer center in Contra Costa County. The health facility once employed 1,100 people. The hospital has been described as the "backbone" of the community of 250,000 people between that is bordered by Vallejo to the north and Berkeley to the south. The West Contra Costa Healthcare District board voted on 26 March 2015 to close the facility in April. The hospital closed on April 21, 2015.HistoryThe hospital opened in 1948 when the community voted to create a special government district around the concept of building a modern hospital known as the West Contra Costa Healthcare District. In 1954 Brookside Hospital opened its doors and at a later time Tenet HealthSystems took over administration from the district. In 1997 the hospital was forced to receive nearly all the ambulance arrival emergency patients for west county as a result of a federal shut down of Kaiser Richmond. In 2004 Tenet dropped their contract and the hospital began to suffer from financial woes.Financial woesThe hospital was bailed out through several state loan, county funding, and ballot measure schemes throughout the 2000s decade as it struggled to remain open. The hospital is also struggling to secure funding necessary to retrofit and modernize to meet the state's strict earthquake proofing building standards.

Just gave birth to my son on 12/27/21 This hospital was recommended by all the moms on my community Facebook page. I also watched the most recent labor and delivery tour on YouTube which swayed me even more. When I was admitted to Labor and delivery to be induced ALL of my nurses were amazing and kind! Delivery room was huge and comfortable food was very good The only problem I had was the dr that was on call and that would be delivering my baby did not make me feel comfortable and did not seem to care about my birth plans and wants. Because of her I ALMOST had to use a vacuum to suction my baby out or her other option was emergency C section. I told her I birthed 3 other children naturally that I knew I could do it again. I’m so thankful that there was an amazing midwife there who came to my room just to help me push and get my baby out. After a few tricks and turns and pushes I was able to birth my baby with the help of the midwife. Anesthesiologist was awesome as well. Postpartum recovery was great. I left after 24 hours. My room was very accommodating for myself and husband. The nurses were attentive and amazing with my baby. Throughout our stay they even took care of my husband helped him with his bed and provided 3 meals for him The only negatives were: There weren’t many snacks available to patients in their nutrition room as they claim in the tour. The only things available were graham crackers and applesauce. They also don’t give you a snack Basket or swaddle as shown in their postpartum tour.
I had a great experience from checking into labor and delivery all the way to being discharged with my bundle of joy. Nurses were phenomenal they didn’t miss a beat! The room was big and spacious. The vibe was just what I expected. During labor I had lights around my bed, r&b music, birthing ball & ice chips at my request , I was free to move around and they followed my birth plan as closely as circumstances permitted. Although I planned to have a natural vaginal birth and wasn’t able to my cesarean went well and everything was perfect. I was made comfortable my entire stay! I highly recommend for any moms looking to have a unique and personal birth experience.
I had a surgery here a few weeks ago and the main thing that me and my family will remember is how pleasant the entire staff was. Every person working here wants each person to get the same experience. There was a couple of nurses on the oncology floor who were not doing that great which I expressed to the head nurse. However if you happen to end up on the oncology floor I was not there for oncology and get Jasmine, you will be so well taken care of. She provided a personal touch that made my recovery easier on me and my loved ones. My doctor was already phenomenal and other than the couple of people this was a wonderful stay for a major surgery.
Although it was a long wait, which is literally everywhere, I was fast tracked according to my symptoms. The staff was professional, very skilled, and kind in meeting any of my needs. My PA, Lindsay, was super on top of things and had a knowledgeable base thinking outside the box and ruling out everything, as well as a great educator and comforting personality. So impressed with her! The whole team did a great job and I felt confident I was in the right hands. Being a retired nurse, I pay attention to these things as I know too much. I will visit their ER again if necessary.
During my stay the staff has been exceptional. My Therapy Team of Brian and Sherry were great teachers. They were very patient and made sure to keep me on course. The Doctors stayed informed of my progress on a daily basis and were very personable. My Case Manager did an excellent job handling my case. Lunch and Dinner were a bit questionable to say the least although breakfast was very good.
My visit here was great. I called last Thursday for an appointment for a mammogram. Because of a cancelation, I was able to get an appointment the next day. How lucky was I. The ladies who greeted me in the 2 offices were extremely nice and patient with me. The lady who gave me my test was very informative about how and when I would receive my results. I had a wonderful experience while getting my mammogram at Henrico Doctor's Hospital.
Had to be admitted suddenly and induced which was scary, but the doctors and nurses in labor and delivery were all fantastic and put me at ease! I can’t say enough great things about the entire staff that took care of us during our 2 days in labor and delivery and 2 days in recovery. They were all friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and always took the extra time to see if we need anything and to answer questions or provide advice. If I have another baby, I will absolutely be having them at Henrico Doctors!
Really wonderful experience delivering our first baby here. The nurses especially were fabulous. We felt really cared for, and honestly the time spent in recovery was more peaceful than I imagined it would be for a hospital stay. Would absolutely deliver here again and would recommend to others.
I showed up to register on a Monday morning per instructions given by the hospital staff the week prior. I did not get admitted until 10 PM that night, resulting in having to spend an extra night in the hospital. The nurses and nursing care technicians were excellent. They were thorough and compassionate. The room was not great, specifically the lack of bathroom facilities i.e., the lack of a shower and a private toilet.
The nurses were great, even with more patients assigned to them than should be nurse to patient ratio they still managed great care and kindness. The Doctors explained things so that I understood when I asked questions. The surgical staff was top notch.
