At Doorstep Healthcare Services, we believe that access to quality dental care is a basic human right of all individuals, regardless of income level or the ability to pay.
Our mission is to provide caring, high-quality and comprehensive oral healthcare services to traditionally under-served populations such as the elderly, mentally and/or physically disabled and economically disadvantaged, while working toward our goal of eliminating health disparities. Individuals residing in long-term care settings often lack access to dental services in a traditional dental office, so we provide mobile dental services to ensure care that works for these patients.
To further our mission, DHS provides:
- Desperately needed oral healthcare services to patients who otherwise would not have access to dental services
- Affordable dental services to an under-served population
- Awareness and prevention education in the area of oral hygiene
Our Story
DHS is the oldest provider of mobile dentistry in Minnesota, providing caring and comprehensive oral healthcare services to residents of long-term care and assisted living facilities since 1978. At that time a desperate need for dental services for under-served populations existed, so the founder started the first full-service portable dental service in Minnesota.
DHS was granted non-profit 501(c)(3) status in 2007. We currently provide dental services to 40 nursing homes and long-term care facilities, performing 90 patient visits per week and more than 3,500 patient visits per year.
Additional capacity-building efforts include the Preventative Service Dentistry Program and expansion to smaller nursing homes that have an especially difficult time finding service providers. This will have a definite, lasting impact on the health, well-being and quality of life for so many more individuals who are living without proper oral healthcare.
