If you are a pet owner and in need of a fantastic animal hospital look no further. We rescued a wonderful lab mix puppy 3 months ago and found this amazing place. Our previous pets we took to a larger more institutional facility so that was our only experience but coming here is like joining a family. The doctors and all the staff are welcoming, friendly and most importantly genuine. They love what they do and are truly excited to help. I would highly recommend Downers Grove Animal Hospital, keep up the great service!
If you are looking for a veterinary clinic - this is it! I am so grateful to Dr. Graham Merkin and his staff. I was not previously a client and my cat, Leia, needed emergency surgery on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Dr. Graham was willing to do it and took great care of her. Our experience was wonderful and I will be recommending Downers Grove Animal Hospital to others forever. They were attentive and thorough and have followed up on her recovery. Thank you from my entire family! You are all wonderful people.
We appreciate the great care our two dogs have gotten. They're very clean and easily explained some symptoms one of our rescues came to us with. The other rescue is very eager and vocal-she's a Boston terrier, they make a special noise to say the least lol they understood and were very patient with her.
I’m really grateful of how well they take care of our kitties! They stayed the whole day getting neutered here and the doctor called me personally to say the surgery went well. The kitties healed so fast and the staff was so sweet talking the kitties personalities which showed me they spent time with them in recovery. Highly recommend!
I've been taking my 3 cats here for about 10 years. I was mostly satisfied - support staff is great, and you can usually get an appointment quickly the same day. They usually saw Graham one of the sons. The prices seemed to be on the high end, perhaps exacerbated by requests for follow-ups that seemed to be of limited use at times. While I appreciated Graham's care, his "bedside manner" is a bit aloof and more than once I left feeling scolded or guilty for not being a better owner. However, by chance his father Robert Dr. Bob saw my cats recently, I feel much more comfortable with him, and I now ask to see him. He helped my cat with thyroid issues by explaining there was a gel I could put in her ear instead of oral pills. His medical approach - less testing, more creative, and fewer follow-ups unless needed saves money. He does not rush exams and has gone into detail about the history and background of a medical treatment to help me understand it. I say all of this even though my favorite 17 year old cat died at the clinic while being prepared for routine teeth cleaning 6 weeks ago, after bloodwork that, in Dr. Robert's words, "could not be better for a 17 year old". All signs point to her death as a pretty uncommon event, despite precautions and attempts to save her. I think what really convinced me to keep going back was their response. All charges, including the upgraded urn, were waived the accompanying fired clay heart containing her pawprints, hair, and name stamped in was lovely. They were very compassionate and seemed as distraught as I was. Receiving a card in the mail with handwritten notes from Dr. Robert and nine other staff members really meant a lot. tldr: We pick our vets based on prices and good medical care, yes. But once you've found one you can trust, who makes you feel like they care about your pets as much as they do their own, you've found a vet for life. For me, thats Dr. Robert Merkel.
I brought my dog here for vaccines and it was very quick they had me in and out. This was especially good bc there were storms later that day. The doctor asked everything I needed for my dog and gave me additional information to ensure my dog remained healthy! The staff is also very friendly. I Will be back.
I wanted to give five stars to Amanda, Annie and Alexis for being so kind and comforting towards me on the phone. My pet unfortunately did not make it to her euthanasia, but I know she would’ve been in the best hands if she had. I really appreciate all of your sweet words and will be back the next time I need any veterinary service.
My diabetic cat stayed here for three days, while there veterinarians did not follow proper instructions for my cats insulin. When I picked up my cat, they told me I was incorrectly taking care of my cat, saying I needed to refrigerate my insulin- when I absolutely do not have to. I am assuming they kept his insulin in the a refrigerator - which you are not supposed to do.
I have been going to this clinic for about a year and I kept telling myself it was going to get better…. BUT it didn’t. I was just reading the reviews and it seems that all the doctors are very arrogant and customer service is not their priority. I’m not happy how they make you feel especially when sometimes the situations that bring you there can be stressful: I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a new vet!
Pros: the front desk staff is extremely friendly and I was able to get an appointment the next day for my birds. The Cons: Expensive and the doctor was rude and arrogant. He didn't listen to me and talked to me like I didn't know anything despite having birds for 30+ years. I've read several reviews after the fact and my experience isn't uncommon. Would I go back? Perhaps if it's an emergency and I can't get into my regular vet. I would definitely double check any dosages. He initially prescribed 0.6 ml of antibiotics for my 30g budgie. I told the receptionist that was wrong. I have never dosed more than 0.02 ml of any med. He corrected it to 0.06 ml which was still on the high end of the dosage range.
