Dreamland (amusement park)

Description

Dreamland was an ambitious amusement park at Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City from 1904 to 1911. It was the last, and considered the grandest, of the three original iconic large parks built on Coney Island, the other two being Steeplechase Park and Luna Park.History and descriptionCreationThe park was founded by William H. Reynolds, a former state senator and successful Brooklyn real estate developer. He designed the park to compete with Luna Park, a neighboring amusement park opened in 1903. Dreamland was supposed to be refined and elegant in its design and architecture, compared to Luna Park with its many rides and chaotic noise.Reynolds purchased a 15acre parcel at Surf Avenue and West Eighth Street on which to build the park, using proxy buyers in order to hide his real ambitions for the lot. Once he bought the site, he used political power to demolish West Eighth Street in order to expand the lot. Today, the site is near the site of the West Eighth Street subway station opposite Culver Depot, the then-terminal of New York City Subway's BMT Brighton Line and BMT Culver Line. The site is now the location of the New York Aquarium and the adjacent subway station.

Playground has a whole bunch of fungus all over it the ground of the playground is so digged up to where the plastic is coming up off the ground literally. I understand this is a black community but at least try to keep the park up for the kids this park need a revamp some loving.
Picked a great day to take our two nieces to the park. Nice to know I did not have to go far for them to have a good time in the water. By the way, there is a knob on top of a short pole near the sprinklers, that you have to press to get the water going once it stops.
Pretty good park with lots of things to do while here.
Wonderful little park. Just off 25th. Playground: Very nice park. The kids had a blast. Picnic area: Very large picnic area. Could hits a large party there.
I love this park but way to many bee's my poor son got stung 4 times in face at the playground but other than that great park
It's a nice little park. I like the water that comes out of the ground. It's a bit small but really cool. I'm only visiting the area so hopefully it will stop raining so the kids can actually enjoy it.
I'm so glad St Lucie County gives us so many parks! The water park is a great way to cool off in the summer!
Our mentoring program Camp About Face did some cleanup work around the park today to help beautify the park. Our young men did a great job.
If the water park part was ever on, it would be a nice place to take your kids to cool down in this heat. 3 of the 7 times I've been there lately the fountain wouldn't turn on.
I wish they had a schedule when the water would be on. Drove there several times with my kids and was always disappointed. I live in Vero Beach
