Designed to meet the needs of the Bayview Hunters Point community in southeast San Francisco, the EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park is a unique educational facility that combines environmental education, experience-based learning & habitat restoration.
The EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park is one of San Francisco’s finest examples of sustainable solutions to adverse human impacts on the environment. In its design and intent, the EcoCenter emphasizes environmental justice to reflect its location in one of the most historically polluted communities in the City. The project was a community‐designed initiative, having integrated the voices of hundreds of community members over the course of a decade of planning.
The EcoCenter is a living classroom that demonstrates how we can better use the Earth’s resources in order to foster healthy people, ecosystems, and economies in our local communities and beyond. Children’s programming, tours, seminars, workshops, and other events are offered and the facility is kept open as a visitor center four days per week.
To protect, restore, and inspire conservation of San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from the Sierra to the Sea.
