El Charro: A Taste of Mexico Right Here in Nixa There are times when you just need a good plate of Mexican food. You know what I mean: something spicy, cheesy, meaty, and satisfying. Something that makes you feel like you’re in a cantina south of the border, surrounded by mariachi music and festive colors. Something that doesn’t break the bank but fills you up, by filling you with happiness. That’s when you head to El Charro in Nixa. This place is the real deal: a family-owned restaurant that serves authentic Mexican cuisine with fresh ingredients and homemade recipes. You can smell the tortillas sizzling on the grill as soon as you walk in, and you can hear the kitchen sizzling with juicy meats and vegetables. The menu is extensive, offering everything from tacos and burritos to enchiladas and fajitas. But let me tell you what I ordered, and why you should too. I started with the enchiladas, which are rolled tortillas stuffed with your choice of meat pt cheese and topped with a rich sauce and even more cheese. I went for the chicken enchiladas with green sauce, which had a tangy and slightly spicy flavor that contrasted nicely with the tender chicken and melted cheese. The enchiladas were served with a side of beans and rice, which were fluffy and flavorful, and a salad, which added some freshness and crunch. Next, I tried the Chile rellenos, which are Anaheim peppers stuffed with cheese and fried in a light batter. These were amazing: the peppers were soft and smoky, the cheese was gooey and salty, and the batter was crispy and airy. The Chile rellenos came with a red sauce that had a hint of sweetness and heat, and a dollop of sour cream that balanced it out. They were also accompanied by beans and rice, which I mixed with the sauce for extra deliciousness. Finally, I indulged in the fajitas, which are strips of steak, chicken, or shrimp cooked with onions and peppers on a hot skillet. You can choose from beef, chicken, shrimp, or a combination of all three. I opted for the combo, because why the heck not? The fajitas were sizzling when they arrived at my table, along with warm tortillas, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. The meat was tender and well-seasoned, the onions and peppers were caramelized and charred, and the tortillas were soft and pliable. I made my own tacos by wrapping the meat and veggies in the tortillas, and adding some cheese, guacamole, and sour cream on top. It was a feast for the senses: the aroma, the texture, the taste. It was perfect. The service at El Charro is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is both cozy and casual. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and the decor was colorful and festive. I enjoyed the music playing in the background, which added to the Mexican vibe. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity of food. I paid less than $20 for my meal, and I had leftovers for later. I highly recommend El Charro to anyone who loves Mexican food or who wants to try something new and delicious. It’s a great place to go with family or friends or even by yourself. You’ll be treated like a regular, and you’ll leave with a smile on your face. El Charro is one of the best restaurants in Nixa, Missouri. And trust me: I know good food when I see it. My advice is to follow the instructions of Speedy Gonzales as you head to El Charro for your next meal, Andale! Andale! Arriba! Arriba! Yii-hah!
Peaceful , you don't feel rushed out of restaurant after eating. Very inviting environment I really enjoyed the food very much everything was cooked to perfection, this place rivals the top Mexican restaurants in the country great taste and flavor!!! My new favorite place to eat!!Food: 5/5
Surprised by this Mexican establishment in Nixa. Service was ok, food plentiful and good except the black beans were very salty and could hardly be eaten. The rest of the meals were great!Food: 4/5
I got here within the last 20 minutes of closing, not knowing that they closed at 9 pm on Wednesday evening, and the gentleman at the counter was very kind and took my order. While I waited for my dinner to be cooked I was even serenaded by the cooks in the kitchen, which is always a lovely treat. When I received my food it looked fantastic and tasted amazing!! The salsa was so delicious and fresh as well. I highly recommend this Restaurant.
Great food. More than I expected. Fair value. Server wasn't very personable and a little slow in our requests for water, salsa, chips and napkins.Food: 5/5
El Charro is always a dependable taco spot. Once I find my favorite dish somewhere it’s hard for me to order anything else. Here it’s the tacos a la plancha. Street tacos - you choose the meat and you can mix and match. I always get carne asada, chicken, and al pastor.Recommended dishesChips and Salsa
I come to Nixa all the time for this. It’s delicious . I get the tacos a la planch - the carne asada tacos. My husband’s is in the pig bowl I forget what it’s called.
Food is good as the taste of the carne, smoky, complemented the taste I wanted for a soft taco meal with beans and rice on the side. The server was very helpful, very good at what she does due to her attention, and nice enough to check on us 3x which is what I will consider the maximum number of times a server must check on their assigned customers. Atmosphere is also good except that they need to be checking on their men's toiletas that's the only one I can use obviously. But overall, I am satisfied. There's always room for improvement as they say. Parking: Refer to above. Kid-friendliness: Yes, this place is kid friendly. I say that since there are options outside of Mexican food such as burger, fries, and Mac and cheese available too. Seating and space is also appropriate for kids.
Absolutely the best Carne Asada in the area. Salsa is fantastic, and the rice is just perfect. My favorite Mexican restaurant.Food: 5/5
