The Eleanor Squire Library opened its doors as the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland on December 4, 1930. It is one of the oldest circulating gardening libraries in the country.
The Eleanor Squire Library of The Cleveland Botanical Garden provides an environment that encourages discovery and promotes learning of all botanical, horticultural, and gardening pursuits. Professional librarians support the guiding principles of the Garden by:
•maintaining resources and services that meet the demands of staff, members, and visitors;
•purchasing and acquiring materials that reflect general gardening, local resources, international studies, and core plant subjects;
•collecting, preserving, and cataloging historical and vital information;
•collaborating with Garden staff to assist in reference and research;
•working with other institutions to achieve greater impact;
•practicing learning skills that promote conservation, sustainability and biodiversity.
