Went to renew my passport and was checked in at front desk. Interview was nice and flowing. They did advise me that they might be delays and I could receive my new passport in 3 months, so hoping for the best and will likely give an update around that time frame. Update: Not sure why something as simple as a passport takes ages, delays are fine but when they are extended and the reasons are not valid it just doesn't make sense. This is really bad. Update 2023: Finally got my passport 8 months after dropping off my application. If you have any travel plans or any process which requires your passport, I couldn't stress this enough, apply waaaaay ahead of time. The whole process needs to be improved. A few suggestions to the Embassy: 1. Apply online with a user profile a. Submit required documents assuming they have a way of verifying authenticity. Originals can be mailed, embassy makes copies and can send back with new passport. 2. Schedule a virtual interview, documents can be presented as well etc 3. Case Officer updates system with approval or whatever status codes used. Lusaka office begins generating passport. I'm positive there are more steps but some kind of process flow of the entire process is needed, as it is, it seems chipante chipante.
Went to renew my passport, which you can only do at the Washington office, supposedly.. The process is very tedious and needs to be revamped. I submitted all my paperwork and paid the fee. Have tried to follow up with the embassy but everytime I get the same response; the forms were sent to Zambia for processing. How long should that take? It's been about 6 months now and have not received a single update to this day. I missed my travel date and had to postpone my ticket because of the Embassy lack of expedition. Even in the USA they still operate in a lackadaisical manner and no sense of urgency. If you need to renew your passport, be prepared to wait for ages.
