As the only intensive English language program in the metropolitan Detroit area, the English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) has specialized exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world for more than 40 years.
The ELI uses the newest language-teaching methodology and the most up-to-date audio, video, and computer technology available, including a remote-access language lab. Our small classes and highly trained instructors make it possible for students to improve their English rapidly and effectively.
The ELI offers comprehensive and innovative language programs at five levels of proficiency, using an integrated curriculum of listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing, and grammar. Students who pass all Level 5 classes at the ELI will meet the general English language proficiency requirement for admission to both undergraduate and graduate programs at Wayne State University.
