Making the Earth greener, one car at a time.
The Estes Park Shuttle Bugs, now the Estes Park Lightning Bugs, are an enterprising group of middle school students dedicated to protecting the environment as well as saving energy. Their first project was the conversion of the Estes Park Middle School parking lot into a summer park-and-ride, as well as integrating with Estes Park's existing shuttle route, creating a space for large amounts of tourists to park. Integrating with the town's existing park-and-ride as an overflow, the project kept many cars off of the road, decreasing pollution from those cars dramatically. For their efforts, the group won first place in the Lexus Eco Challenge, which encourages students to invent and execute "green" projects. Since, they have re-banded and are currently working on making their school more energy efficient.
